...basically, the author of the article the following excerpt is of, Adam Morrison, thinks that only one of the four Peppers was always delivering his best work. Let's see who that is and why.
Their relevance in the first part of their career is unquestionable, being an accessible alt/funk rock band, grabbing attention with their personalities/image/stunts. When John Frusciante joined, things got better, and when he left, things got pretty bad.
When Frusciante rejoined for Californication, the band seemed to be as inspired as ever. By The Way was okay but more of the same, and I think Stadium Arcadium was, with the exception of a couple of tracks, bloated and bordering on self-parody. If it wasn't for John's guitar-playing, I'd have trouble making it through the whole album.
Click here to read the whole article and, though this sure is flattering in some way, be nice if you're defending the other three guys, as the author's entitled to his own opinion.
Many thanks to Theodora P. for this news.

that's exactly the way I feel about RHCP.
DO NOT AGREE. The four of them are awesome together.
That's bizarre... I thought Stadium Arcadium was one of the albums where the Peppers had the best chemistry and where everyone in the band sounded their best.
Lol. A year and half before release -
They all rock... SA rocked... the end
A little bit too strict for me, but not totally false.
i disagree with him. when i heard stadium i was blown away from it. i love all the songs on the album. i also agree with lara. and besides when rhcp make an album the last thing on their minds is other people's opinions ( that's why their music is groundbreaking and unique). so i think we should let them do their job as they always do.
New interview with Chad and a piece about john : http://www.musicradar.com/news/guitars/chad-smith-on-chili-peppers-chickenfoot-futures-217628/2
i really do not see what was so bad about SA, all four of them did great on it
I don't agree totally. The RHCP and their music has changed over the years, but it's not worse than it was in 1991/1999. Some people say, every track on Stadium Arcadium sounds similar and is boring. But you can say that when you listen to BSSM the first time, too. If u deal with the songs more than 1 time you can still get the brilliancy of this album. I'm very happy RHCP still exists at all and look forward to a new album or, even better, a Tour!
I partly agree with A.M. SA is pretty cool to listen music album with amazing tone but nothing more. There are some really good songs (Dani California, Turn it again, We believe, hey, etc.) but on the other hand too much songs are "nothing special" but John solos (which knock me out) for instance Slow Cheetah, Strip my mind. There are also some good songs ruined by awful "commercial" refrain - Tell me baby - Gosh! I think it could be Rubin's fault who tried to make this album basically for the widest audience. Next producer should be RHCP or John alone - it worked with his last solo album.
I absolutely don't agree with that. I think that they all are doing great, and trying to do best they could on stage. Anthony, John, Flea, Chad are red hot chili peppers, and rhcp wouldn't be rhcp without any of them.
it was really fashionable for the indie kids and magazines to say SA was too big and bloated but the truth is it was a great album, every member of the band was on top form and played/sang better then they ever have, altho SA would have been much better if they put a million miles of water on there
Flea said after the release of SA "If you don't like SA, then you don't like the Chili Peppers"
Why did he say something so bold? Because the chemistry between the band was really at it's best.
SA is bloated?
What about Flea's bass line on 21st Century?
What about the amazing funk sex jam session known as Turn it Again?
Jesus dude, Chad's drumming has only gotten better and some say SA is Anthony's best vocal work.
I think part of the reason you feel this way about the album is because John really did shine on it.
Crazy solos, extra funk, but I think you're really, really missing some of the beauty.
You can't put other members down just because John is kicking ass.
Hey is a beautiful fucking song.... really beautiful fucking song and guess what...
the bass part is more complex than John's chord progressions.
The bass line for C'mon Girl rad!
Anthony's lyrics for Death of a Martian is deep, beautiful, & as alway complex as fuck.
The bass line for So Much I is also awesome.
Look, maybe SA didn't hit you like blood sugar or californication, but to say that the other members aren't working as hard is really a shame.
and Again... another sick bass line is Warlocks AND Torture Me!!! God, amazing bass.
Chill dude, I have a feeling their new stuff will tickle your fancy.
I hate it when peopel say bands have sold out or are worse because they change to a softer sound. This is just not true people need to reconise that they are genuine and all amazing muscians.
Also the word "uninspired" doesn't make sence as they were all more motivated than ever to make SA.
This article is purely an opinion from someone who probably only passively listens to RHCP but for those people who are in love with the band they relaise that they are something special.
Also my only reservation for SA is that the music videos were terrible especially the single hump de bump which was very cringe worthy. Other than that purely muscially it was amazing.
Anyway i personally cannot wait for the new album and think it will be awesome!
While there is no doubt that a alot of their recent songs seem to be built around John's guitar playing, the Chili Peppers are nothing without each of their unique contributions. They are one of the most dynamic groups because of this, and I feel it's great that John is able to inspire them to create their music. Especially considering all they've been through.
