This will, from what I understand from people who bother enough to play video games, be interesting to both aspiring musicians and various kinds of armchair enthusiasts and couch potatoes.
Gaming website Kotaku reports that Red Hot Chili Peppers might get their own Guitar Hero game.
According to details from a survey forwarded to Kotaku, Activision appears to be gauging interest in a Guitar Hero: Red Hot Chili Peppers concept. Similar to previous games that highlight rock bands like Metallica, Van Halen and Aerosmith, the Red Hot Chili Peppers branded version is pitched as highlighting the band's greatest hits and songs from guest artists chosen by the headlining band.
"Celebrate the entirety of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' life, starting with their early days in LA, to their famous Hyde Park concert to their highly anticipated new studio album," notes the purported survey. "Discover the story behind their legendary music as you unlock interviews, retrospectives, concert footage and other commentary."
The survey specifically names albums By The Way, Californication, Give It Away and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "upcoming studio album to be released in 2011."
The Red Hot Chili Peppers' music has appeared previously in the series, with individual songs popping up in Guitar Hero III and the Guitar Hero: On Tour games. The band's breakout album Blood Sugar Sex Magik appeared as a full album download for competitor Rock Band.
Read the rest of the article here and feel free to share your two cents on this matter; given that some bands like Aerosmith, Van Halen and Metallica already got their own names and that some others, like The Beatles and Green Day got their own Rock Band games. Does this sound too commercial or just right? Would even those amongst you who never played a video game and consider games a waste of time give a go to something like this?

it'll be weird playing john songs as josh o.o
should be interestin oO
Might be awesome, but there should be option to play either as John or as Josh
the great thing is, that you can make your own originally backing tracks by turning one or more instruments off and record the song.
Hmmm... I used to play a lot of games but I stopped before actually playing "guitar hero"... I think it really depends on the details. For example, playing as John, what songs they choose, whether or not it's only hits (I love Can't Stop but would much rather "Purple Stain" than "Snow"), etc, etc. Also, I don't actually know how fun guitar hero is. Maybe it's awesome, maybe it's not so crash-hot as everyone says.
Guitar Hero sucks so much!
wow!!! John go out just in time!!!! Chili's need to chill!

I always thought guitar hero was stupid, but I may have to try this edition if nothing else for the novelty of playing along with rhcp in a game. What I want to find out more about is if it will feature the likeness of John, or just Josh. Maybe it'll feature some of the well known live jams.

Josh in the game? Come on. Not that this isn't already laughable, but that would makes it even further laughable. NO THANK!!!
i prefer real guitar ;f

I really hope they won't get it. :/
And I feel sorry for people that will rock in the game, playing Snow or Soul To Squeeze,
as they can't even play Desecration Smile on the real guitar. Though yea, it might be fun for GH's fans.
But come on, playing the real guitar is so much more enjoyable, entertaining, it's the actual ability to achieve and have great fun of.
Just my opinion. I do not like when bands go commercial.
Sorry for any mistakes.
Posted a reply to the above and it was deleted - have no idea why as I didn't say anything remotely controversial or offensive. Weird.
I see both of the replies in the feed and in the sidebar and just one here. I assume it's a commenting system glitch, don't worry.
In fact, it looked like something I wanted to reply to.
My recent post Omiljena felerična igračka / Favourite broken toy
cheers Iva, didn't think I'd said anything out of order. Seems to have sorted itself out now.
Well, it's a game. It's not supposed to be the real thing. Most of the people that I know don't play Guitar Hero for the guitar aspect of it. They play it because, supposedly, it's a fun game.
Quite saddening in a way if this does transpire and find it hard to imagine (though of course this is pure supposition) that someone with John's outlook towards music and creativity might condone this. As has already been said, surely playing the actual instrument/s is far more rewarding and creative than holding a plastic guitar shaped console and hitting buttons on a screen? Really does smack of commercialism and maybe he did get out just in time. Who knows? Seems a bit bizarre if this is Guitar Hero for a band who have just lost their main guitarist - again,
"Albums By the Way, Californication and GIVE IT AWAY" lol
oih noes!
I play guitar and I still think guitar hero is a blast. Its fun for everyone and it will be even more fun with red hot chili peppers. You guys need to chill out with how evil you think guitar hero is. It will be awesome as long as you cant only play as josh. It would be sweet to see some hillel action.
I agree...it's a great opportunity for Chili fans to have fun playing to their favorite Chili songs!!! I would buy it although I prefer playing guitar as John not Josh.
pretty, pretty lame. please don't.
pretty, pretty lame. please don't.
arik marshall as unlockable bonus character would be great.
I would not want to play this... but on the bright side, usually you can get multi track versions of songs that are on guitar hero, it would be sweet to have those versions of rhcp music.
i've never played guitair hero but c'mon guys its just a bit of fun what does it matter, you have the descretion to play it or not,
providing its done with some level of taste i'm indiffernt to it
I think it's right.
It's true that playing real guitar is more enjoyable, but videogames are just for fun! (just as soccer games aren't supposed to replace real soccer for example) , and can be a great, basic introduction for some great music and instruments.
About the commercial issue, correct me if I'm wrong, but the RHCP are already a huge commercial (and must of all, beliveable and autentic) band ( I mean californication 15+ million, stadium arcadium, 8+ million),
Honestly, I prefer that newer generations get contact with the chili peppers, rather than the Jonas Brothers or other MTV Stuff, and the fact that videogame industry generates more money than the music and movie industry, it's a new way of publishing music.
plus we have seen virtual videogame peppers in the californication video
. Greetings from Mexico and I want to thank Iva for this wonderful page!
I'm a musician, and I think people who complain about GH are missing the point. Obviously anyone who is anyone realizes that playing GH or RB is not like playing a real guitar. Drums are much more like playing drums and Vocals, well, yes you are actually just singing. The point is, people play video games for the same reason they watch movies, read books, listen to music, etc, for entertainment. RHCP make music for entertainment, so they seem like a perfect combination.
I'm a fan of just sitting down and listening to music while many friends of mine aren't, but people love to get together and play these rhythm based games. It involves the player in the music the same way that dancing does really. Also, for me, playing these games really highlights rhythmic aspects of songs that sometimes go unnoticed.
I am an occasional gamer, and I know that personally, I wont enjoy or play an RHCP related game. I have occasionally played Give It Away on rockband with friends, and I dread the idea of it now. In my mind, the music and how I imagine it is completely personal and something great, and I dont know, things like this seem to ruin how I imagine an album.
Another thing that Ive noticed from these games is that alot of people leave with a really impersonal relationship with the music. Alot of gamers wont buy the albums, sit in front of stereos in awe, or inspire them. I dont know, just my opinion. Im not bashing the idea, just saying that I wouldnt buy it or anything.
NOOOOOOO!!!!
