UG’s Top 10 Greatest Rock Guitarists Ever

Earlier this week, the community website Ultimate Guitar have held their own poll to determine who are the ten fan favourites among rock guitarists, pompously titled . People voted, voted and voted; having come up with a list completely different from many others - some of the usual suspects didn't make the cut!

John was voted in the sixth place, and here's what they had to say about him:

6. John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
John is best known for his time in Red Hot Chili Peppers, but he's released twice as many solo albums and has collaborated with the likes of The Mars Volta and even breakcore artist Venetian Snares. But after first leaving RHCP in 1992, he battled drug addiction and lost all his teeth to a serious mouth infection. By 1998 he had recovered, and was invited back by Flea. "Nothing would make me happier in the world," he said.

If you like, you can read the entire list on the source website.

*Many thanks to Jenea, Damien and Juan for the heads-up

I wonder where one would rank him on a 'Greatest Musicians' list.. :)

  3. had says:

they could avoid to talk about his teeth when they talk about his music...

  4. Bernard says:

Of course, there's no such a thing as a top ten of guitarists, and the artists themselves probably won't give a toss whether they're at 3 or 33. But what better excuse to discuss their merits or demerits? Reading the UG readers' comments bitching over this list is fun.

  5. sorana says:

every guitar player has a unique tehnic an a unique perception about music and everyone had discovered new sounds and elements of music, so it kind of inadequate to say that some guitar players are the best; indeed there are differences between some of them but this dosen t mean that we must idolize only those ten guitarists. Many times we can t compare them because of the difernt style of music they play. :)

  6. rusd says:

John is the best musician I have hard when it comes to encoding pure emotion into melodies. I have never heard such incredible diversity before, even from the likes of Hendrix.
