Poem – New John song on Soundcloud

John has posted a new song to his Soundcloud and bandcamp profiles. It's called Poem and it's a free download. On bandcamp, you have the option to download it in multiple formats, while Soundcloud offers only a single format.

The cover art was done by Aura T-9 and it resembles some other covers this artist has done for John in the past, in terms of style.

It feels like I'm in a video game. What an interesting sound

Highly disagree, I consider myself a full fan of JF. However this first taste is not my cup of tea...

  • Josh

This is crap. It's not a song.

  • Jf

Am i missing something? This thing is not a song!

  • janisgeiger

Hey, does anyone agree it sounds very "metallic"? High treble all
around. Especially if I listen to a song like Breathic in comparison,
the crystal clear high treble sound without any true middles (??) is
very obvious - so to say... clear 😀

  • FabClips

I hope he is not into drugs again...

Sounds to me like a part of a song. Could be wrong because JF has been known to release some mad stuff... but I doubt this will be on his next full length LP unless it makes up one sound in the mix of a particular song on it. That's my thoughts at present, but the predictably unpredictable JF has always been good at surprising me 🙂

I too am a massive fan of pretty much every piece of music he's ever lent his touch to, but this is a bit far out for me... for now. I said the same upon first hearing of PBX

I think John wants to run away from the God of guitar he is (was?) and the inspiring and sensitive person he is for those people, like me, who felt a cozy shelter on his music and voice. I hope i made myself clear. He is not comfortable being a loved one. I think this is not music. This not heal nothing. It is hard to say this is crap, it is more than rare. I deeply love John.

  • dboberg

Agreed, this is too far out for even a huge fan like me. I would love to hear John's description of this track though. I'd imagine him saying "these are the sounds from a galaxy I visited before I was born..." Also, is "Trickfinger II" going to be more acid? As much as I appreciate a new album, I just find acid to be a boring genre and would love to hear more PBX style breakbeat stuff.

I LOVE this. I've felt like what he's released in the past few albums is so far advanced for our time and understanding of music as it is and has been. It sounds like music of the future. Poem is what I would expect to hear if I was exploring the surface of a moon orbiting Jupiter in the year 2043. My favorite part is that he's making whatever wonderful combination of sound waves are flowing though his head -- nothing is forced. Rock on, John. I love you. And I hope you are happy.

    cool

    Âbstract Electronic Noise "Music"

  • G

This is not music of the future. Not for humans. If you can honestly say this is pleasing to your ears then I don't know if you are human.

  • Kazo

More math and numbers than the sweet chemistry.

  • Eric

It's an allusion to Varese and his "Electronic Poems" from 1958.

  • VladtheImpala

No one cares what you think, G. But, we don't go so far as to question your humanity over a difference in taste, so try to return the favor, eh?

  • Carogaba

I agree! My first response was I’m not artsy enough to get what’s going on here... but then I thought the same thing ... probably a track that gets layered with more into a song. It doesn’t matter as much what he meant by it, I’m just happy he’s still making and releasing music!! (But if he ever did offer an explaination I’d be interested ...)
