  • Swahili Blonde – new song, new musicians in the band, preorder info

At this point, I believe it is safe to say that Swahili Blonde is a band – I do hope that this does not offend anyone, as it was not meant to offend. And yes, this is another round up of news on the project (to the despair of those who are angry that Invisible Movement is covering a project that John is actually a part of instead of covering the one he is not in anymore). This is coming from someone who was not civilised in the past and has learnt a lot from that: please, be civilised and respect other people’s tastes and choices, as previously explained here.…

  • John’s featured in this week’s episode of The Guitar Show

Some excerpts of Barry Cleveland’s interview with John for the Guitar Player magazine, November 2006 issue, will be a part of this week’s episode of The Guitar Show. John Haring, executive producer of the show has gotten back to me and clarified that this indeed is original material and though they’re not 100% sure how long the interview excerpts actually are, but he’s sure that they will be very interesting to the readers of Invisible Movement. ^_^ This is how the staff of The Guitar Show presented it: This week, we’ll also hear excerpts from a 2006 interview with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ John Frusciante conducted by Barry Cleveland, Associate…

  • The David Bowie tribute album is available for pre-order

Manimal have just announced that their David Bowie tribute album, Repetition, is now available for pre-order. The album features versions of Bowie’s songs done by the label’s own artists as well as some prominent musicians, such as Duran Duran and Carla Bruni. All the earnings from internet orders will be donated to War Child, though this is – just to clarify – not a project done in cooperation with the aforementioned charity. The double CD album can be ordered only by PayPal for now and the link to do so is on the label’s catalog page. The cover “art” is supplied with this post and you can enlarge it to…

  • Chad Smith mentions John’s departure for the first time in an interview

In a recent interview to a Pittsburgh radio station, 105.9 The X, mostly related to Chickenfoot, Chad Smith openly spoke about John’s departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time; after months of interviews that could’ve been understood in a couple of different ways. It appears that the band supports the decision, which is nice. NA: I hear the lineup has changed. Any chance you can comment on that? CS: Well, you could say that, we have a new guitarist who is one of the most talented musicians I’ve come to know; and as a group we are taking steps I never thought we’d be taking and…

  • A mention of John’s departure from RHCP in Guitar World, March 2010

There’s an one-page snippet on John’s departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers in March 2010 issue of Guitar World. As usual, our friend Roberto Campos was so kind to provide Invisible Movement with the scan, so you can read it and download it. The article itself is nothing really new, as it’s mostly paraphrasing John’s 16th December blog entry. Click the thumbnail to go to the page with this scan in the gallery or click here. 97204 You might also want to check out The whole March 2010 issue preview 2009 article on John from GW 2006 HUGE feature on John from GW 2002 interview with John from GW…

  • Swahili Blonde – new artwork, musician, song versions and single re-release

For everyone who’s been following one of a couple of known projects John’s been taking part in since his departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers; here’s some news on Swahili Blonde. While the release date for the physical version of the Elixor Fixor single, which will contain a remix, is not yet known, there’s (yet again) new artwork for it, featuring a cute animal from the cat family. Even though the project was labeled an one-person-show or DIY come six months ago, at this point, there are five people participating. After John, violinist Laena Myers-Ionnita and drummer Stella Mogzawa, the fifth person to join Nicole Turley’s afro-beat/tango effort is…

  • Omar Rodriguez-Lopez mentions Speed Dealer Moms in an interview

The Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is surely busy these days – releasing album after album, about to premier his film (that John is the executive producer of) and being interviewed pretty often. In his most recent interview for the Argentinian magazine Rockzone, dated 15th January 2010, he’s asked about working with John and he happens to spill out some words on what obviously are Speed Dealer Moms. It’s not new compared to what we were told when Bang Fest was canceled, the duo’s still working on their music and it is not known when we’ll have an opportunity to hear them. But don’t forget, this all comes from a third…

  • John’s “As Can Be” used for a deconsonantation experiment

To some of you, this might be a weekend WTF. To some others, perhaps, a start to an interesting discussion. And I think I just made a new word, as I have never heard of deconsonantation before. Stephen Boyd, aka DJ Empirical used As Can Be, the opener to John’s debut solo album Niandra LaDes And Usually Just A T-shirt for an experiment. The song was edited out so all the consonants were removed from it..e.g. its first line “When you’ve got a clean smile” is now something like “Euiaeiai”. The author explains it this way: My theory here was that since melody is carried in vowels (as opposed to…
