  • Saturday question #31: End of the world scenario

First of all, I’m impressed with how good the debate on last week Saturday question turned out to be. There are some true intellectuals posting on the site and it can only be a good thing. Thank you all! And now for something completely different. As tasteless as it may be, yesterday reminded me of this topic. The world of films, books and TV series seems to have always been crazy about the end of the world scenarios. Instant Shift made a compilation of 25 most famous end of the world scenarios on film. But now…now it is the time to come up with YOURS. Give us all a synopsis…

  • Toni Oswald reveals some more stills from Desert In Shape

Toni Oswald, John’s friend and former girlfriend, one half of the music project The Diary Of Ic Explura, has released some stills from her 1992 film, Desert In Shape to public; and made an announcement via her Myspace. After some deliberation, I have decided to put up some stills online from the film I made in the early 90s called Desert In The Shape. It stars Clara Balzary, myself, John Frusciante, and Matt Polish. It was filmed by my friend, the painter Greg Gibbs and features music by John. A photo from the film was used as the cover of his record Niandra La Des and Usually Just a T-Shirt.…

  • Shush! Random Tuesday surprise, available for only 48 hours.

Some of you remember it, some of you missed it, some of you weren’t around at that time…a little more than one year ago, there was an awesome instrumental jam with four participants (John, Flea, Josh Klinghoffer and Stella Mozgawa) at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The intro is available as audio, there are some videos of it. It was known that there was a video of the whole thing, but the taper did not want anyone to see it for personal reasons… …for the next 48 hours, you can, however, see the trailer on the forum. You have to be registered to see it. Please, click here or on…

  • Pssst! Random Sunday surprise just BECAUSE!

Friday was an AWESOME day for me and some others in oh so many ways. I thought I’d give you all a whole 2001 show to celebrate it, so you could have some awesomeness in your lives, too. And it’s a Sunday, so sit down and watch. Some of you know this show, some of you don’t, some of you even live close to the venue, in a city that’s err…a bit invaded by people from Balkans, though it’s in a totally different place. So, it’s John’s solo show in Toronto on 13th February 2001, at the Horseshoe Tavern. Here’s one of the videos as a little preview. To view…

Welcome to 30th edition of Saturday questions. Since I’m planning to give y’all a quick surprise later today as I’m really in a great mood, this will be a short one. Define impossible. I’m sorry if this reminds anyone of Chicken Soup For Soul, because I really want to know your answers to this and I bet you want to know other people’s answers, too. • British band Blackbud on RHCP/JF influence on their music

Andrew of Stereokill.net recently interviewed a British band called Blackbud and asked them about John and Peppers’ influence on their music. They were more than happy to recommend two albums we all love. Stereokill: There’s a strong Red Hot Chili Peppers/John Frusciante influence in Blackbud’s sound. Does the band have a favourite Frusciante solo release? SN: We listen to Shadows Collide With People on the bus a fair bit. To Record Only Water for Ten Days is another good one. Andrew would also like to recommend the band to I-M.net readers, as even Jimmy Page is a fan of them. You can check the band out on their Myspace page.

  • LO-KU comic featuring John

Today’s issue of LO-KU, revelations, is about John

LO-KU, with the tagline Haiku gone lo-fi is a web comic ran by Thomas and Daniel Drinnen. Daniel’s the author of today’s issue and he wanted everyone to see it, for the following reason: For today’s comic, I have created a strip inspired by John! I would love to get this comic out to the fans of John, and if you mentioned it on your site, I’m sure they would all see it! Of course I would be happy to link to Invisible Movement in exchange for this favor, but more than anything, this is about sharing my love for John with the rest of the world! LO-KU is a…

  • MusicRadar places John on the list of 35 Fender Stratocaster stars

In their feature with photos and descriptions of each player’s style and story of how they came to be that great; MusicRadar have, of course, listed John. The article begins here and what they said about him is here. Before reuniting with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1998, John Frusciante lost his teeth to drug addiction. The following decade would see him crawl back to a creative peak and release an astonishing body of work of which his ‘day job’ as a funkateer alongside Anthony Kiedis and co is only one facet. Despite the huge variety of sounds and instruments he uses, it’s those Bold As Love-style embellished rhythm…

  • Saturday question #29: Books

This week’s Saturday question is pretty generic, which doesn’t mean it’s boring. Once a month, generic subjects should have their own turn, too; just as often as the total WTFs. What are your favourite books? Share your stories on them, explain why they’re your favourites, provide links to them, quick reviews if you like. Recommend what you like to everyone else. For previous Saturday questions, click here.
