invisible-movement.net is a non-commercial website made for fans of John Frusciante, former Red Hot Chili Peppers' guitarist and a successful solo artist in his own right. This project serves to update everyone onto what John's been up to musically; as well as to collect, preserve and protect information and media related to his work. It is not officially affiliated with John Frusciante, record companies he's been publishing music for, his family, friends, domestic cats or anyone else...but they don't mind its presence. In fact, many of them have contributed to it and supported it.
Named after the song Invisible Movement, off John's third solo album, To Record Only Water For Ten Days, the site was launched in 2004 as news blog with a rather sub-par collection of live photographs, text-only magazine articles and a couple of audio files. Over the next seven years, it gradually became the Internet's only significant English-speaking resource on John Frusciante's music and career.
Despite being unofficial, this website does not follow the majority of the typical fan site practices (posting private photos, copying and pasting news and other information) - over the years its copy has improved, the news are not just mere content updates and press-clippings. Record companies, event organisers, documentary authors and other insiders have been providing news, clarifications, exclusive sneak previews/premieres and prizes for the site visitors. I-M handled most of the online promotion for the releases and events that took place from 2008 on.
Due to its complex structure, original research nature of some of its sections, number of contributors as well as changes towards better quality when it comes to media files, this website is always under construction. It is not something made and left to rot. It takes a lot of time to build, update and maintain; so the visitors' understanding is very much appreciated.
One of the site's numerous social media outlets is Your Forum Is Glued To A Site On Fire, a friendly community of fellow John Frusciante listeners, many of them musicians and artists themselves. Its Twitter and Facebook profiles also have a considerably large following and are regularly updated.
If you have something to contribute to this site, be sure it will be in the right hands and your ownership over whatever material you own will never be in question. What's yours is always yours. Nobody else gets to show off apart from you, either, if that is what you want. Click here to see how you can support this website and/or contribute to it.
To sum it up, this is a complex website on John Frusciante that hundreds of people have contributed to. And we have done so because we love John Frusciante and his music. And we'll continue doing so.
A Bit Of Statistics
So far, the site contains of. 1182 news items in 24 categories and site visitors have posted 5991 comments. The information on the site is divided into 800 pages, not counting the gallery.
The video archive has its own stats. The BBS has over 4100 members.
The domain name was purchased on 13th April 2004, the site was open to the public on 24th November 2004. Its milestones were achieved on following days:
- 100 000 visitors on 19th November 2005
- 250 000 visitors on ? 2006
- 500 000 visitors on 01st July 2007
- 750 000 visitors on 20th March 2008
- 1 000 000 visitors on 29th September 2008
- 1 250 000 visitors on 16th January 2009
- 1 500 000 visitors on 14th April 2009
- 1 750 000 visitors on 02nd August 2009
- 2 000 000 visitors on 06th November 2009
...then the count was lost and the entire counting habit started looking stupid.
The best day in terms of site visits was 14th December 2009. Why not 17th? Because that's when the server broke, it just couldn't stand the pressure.
The Team
Though a legend says that there's a whole football team of people behind I-M, it is maintained by solely one person, a web designer/poet/online magazine editor in late 20s. You can take a look at her pofessional portfolio, or follow her blog. There will rarely be anything John Frusciante-related in any of those places, in case you wondered.
Say hi!
You can write directly to iva@invisible-movement.net or use the below form, if you're lazy. Please, write in English, Italian or whatever is the politically correct name for the language spoken in Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Before doing anything else, have in mind that you are NOT WRITING TO JOHN FRUSCIANTE. You are not writing to his manager or press representative either. You are writing to person who runs Invisible Movement. There's no known fan mail address for JF at the moment.
In addition to this, the only official John-related things on web are his blog, Myspace and Facebook pages. If you (think that you) spoke to John on Twitter, some other Myspace or Facebook account, you were scammed. There are no known social networking accounts where he reaches out to people himself, though he indeed posted most of his blog entries back when he was blogging regularly.
If you would, however, like me to pass a question to the record company publishing John's solo albums or any other record company that's recently published collaboration albums he was on, I can do that. They're nice people, though they might not respond immediately. Make sure your question has something to do with the availability of albums, merchandise, albums themselves and not something like sending gifts or having JF play at your wedding ceremony.
