FAQ / What Is This?
This is Invisible Movement’s brand new video section. If you got an invitation to test this, you should be aware that it’s in its early stages and that feedback is always helpful. You can send your suggestions and such to me at iva@invisible-movement.net.
Q: Is this like Invisible Movement’s YouTube?
A: Well, yes, a lo-fi kind of a video thing for all of us to enjoy. The differences are obvious: you can’t upload videos on your own, there are no personal profiles or vlogs. And look ma, no ads!
Q: ARGH, I can’t watch the videos!
A: You need to download the latest version of Adobe [formerly Macromedia] Flash player. Head over to the Flash download centre on the Adobe website. If it still doesn’t work, there’s a possibility that you or your computer’s administrator has disabled Flash. By the way, you can’t watch these videos on an iPhone/iPod touch as they do not support Flash as of now. And, of course, this will be a nightmare on dial-up and ISDN.
Q: Why are some videos smaller?
A: Because they were originally recorded in lower screen resolutions and they look quite bad when enlarged. I’m doing my best to upload videos of best possible quality, but it is not always an option.
Q: When I click the share button, the video disappears!
A: It’s a bug…if you scroll down and do that again, it won’t.
Q: Can I register and have a profile?
A: At this moment, no. I am searching into POSSIBLY this and main site sharing the login so you could claim your names and leave comments in both places; but until then, it’ll have to be like this.
Q: Can I upload my own videos?
A: No, but you can send them to me and I’ll upload them. They can have yout watermark on them, too, if you like. Just do not ask me to place it in some ridiculous place, e.g. in the middle.
Q: Can I download the videos?
A: The most of them are downloadable as original files; unless otherwise stated. However, not all of them are available as physical downloads yet, you have no idea how much of work that is. Head over to the video downloads to see what’s available. I can imagine that more will be added soon.
Q: Can I embed the videos someplace else?
A: As of now, no. You can use the sharing function and invite people to watch them here, though.
Q: Can you add annotations?
A: This is currently being investigated.
Q: How about a category for our videos and cover songs?
A: I’m working on some additional programming stuff that’ll separate it from the content directly related to John Frusciante, but yes, it’s being worked on.
Q: Why don’t you post RHCP videos?
A: I don’t think Warner Bros would like it. If they don’t allow YouTube to do it, why would they allow an unofficial site to do it? I don’t even want to think about this.
Q: Why don’t you post the Life’s A Bath video?
A: Let me remind you…the first time it appeared online, it got deleted due to policy violations and/or by request. It’s not allowed in many places, including this website, given its depiction of drug use and…should this even be explained further?!
Q: Why don’t you post TROWFTD videos?
A: Vincent Gallo doesn’t like it when people put those online and I don’t think I’d ever want to deal with him. One of the popular video sites probably has them, look for them there.
Q: Why isn’t [insert a name here] up?
A:There might be many reasons for that.
- It will be up in future.
- Its owner doesn’t want it shared.
- It was broadcasted on a TV station that has weird policies, which comes down to 2.
- It’s not acceptable for the audience due to questionable contents.
- Its quality is so bad that nothing can be done about it.
- Perhaps I and the other contributors don’t have a clue on what [insert name here] is. Do feel free to fill us in. ^_^
