Flea: It’s a TWO-year hiatus!

In his interview for Los Angeles Times' blog two days ago; Flea revealed that he's now a student at USC, that he's planning a solo record and, when he was asked about the status of Red Hot Chili Peppers at this moment, his response was contradictory to what Chad Smith had said a couple of months ago.

So, are the Chili Peppers working on a new album?
No, we’re on a major hiatus. It's a two-year hiatus.

And that was very set? You said, 'Two years and then we’ll talk about starting again"?
Basically, yeah. We just needed two years. We had our noses to the grindstones so hard for so long. We needed to get away from it and get a fresh perspective on things.

At this point, do you guys have plans to get back together and record something else?
We’re just taking the two years off and seeing where we are at the end of that.

For more information, read the whole interview. And, feel free to vote in the poll below.

What are your thoughts on what Flea said?

  • One more year? ARGH, ARGH, someone put me to hibernation! (20%, 96 Votes)
  • I'm afraid it smells like a break-up just waiting to be announced. (23%, 111 Votes)
  • I'd like to hear what the other three Peppers have to say. (45%, 215 Votes)

That just means more time for John to put out more music of his own, and I can’t hardly wait for Flea’s new album either :)

I think this is a good sign; Flea recorded with John and Josh (k.) for the new album; I remember when John and Josh did the performance shows they were thinking of doing some songs from Shadows collide with people, but they were going to have to figure out how to teach the bass parts for the album, which weren’t written down anywhere, to Joe Lally. This was fine because it resulted in Ataxia ; )… But, this time, Flea knows the bass parts to the new songs, and probably knows or would have an easier time learning the bass parts to other songs of John’s that he, and Josh, would like to take out on a possible short or medium tour for the new album. : ) ….

yeah i agree with glycerineclown – this is AWESOME news. i may be in a minority, but i’d be happy if RHCP broke up, because then John would be putting out more solo stuff.

A 2-year hiatus from now or since the release of the SA?That’s a vague statement by Flea, whereby You can’t draw any definite conclusion…To me it’s more like counting 2 years from 2006 which coincides with what Chad had suggested a couple of months ago…But I don’t wanna think about a break up at all cause that would be the last day of my life…RHCP are the blood in my veins….VIVA RHCP!
