John Frusciante unofficial – Invisible Movement

Foregrow EP to be released on April 16th, through Acid Test, for RSD

Do you remember when a track named Foregrow found its way on the The Man With The Iron Fists soundtrack? Well, a song named Foregrow is going to be the first track of John's new EP of the same name, which is to be released on April 16th, this year's Record Store Day, through Acid Test - the same label that released Trickfinger LP a little less than a year ago.

The press release, posted to Resident Advisor, who also advise us to revisit the interview from May 2015 says:
Last year saw Acid Test team up with the former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist for Trickfinger, an album of IDM-informed abstractions RA's Patric Fallon said "finds fresh excitement in acid's natural proclivity for twitchy, evasive movements." The new release, out on Record Store Day, sees Frusciante "using elements of John Carpenter's eternal scores, the drum programming DNA of jungle and footwork, and yes, a Roland TB-303," according to the label.

Expect the purchase links to be available shortly and, until then, let's enjoy this great news!

* Many thanks to Federico who saw this before I did.

  • orangevarld

    Great!

  • Nickk

I have to be honest, I dont think I can bear another Trickfinger record. PBX had some beautiful melodies in the latter half and even Enclosure had a few good bits. But Trickfinger was just too brutal and acid-house for me to get into. Im just hoping that this EP has some nice melodies and vocals in it.

  • Rodrigo Mondragon

:)! Come on! More hugs from Buenos Aires

  • Andrew

foregrow has vocals 100% . You can hear the preview in the 2012 rza movie "man with the iron fists"
and this ep is released under "john frusciante" name.
    not "trickfingers"

  • Chris

Great news. However, I thought JF didnt want to produce / release records for sale anymore. He just wanted to create music without any particular audience in mind...

  • Iva

Having no particular audience in mind and giving music for free does not equal not releasing records and never selling anything anymore. There may have been situations where he was vague in the past, but he was pretty clear in the November 24th 2015 post.

Putting oneself out there for people who analyse your every single word is unpleasant for us random strangers, can't imagine what it's like for him, on top of all the stereotypes, misquotations and other nonsense that piled up over the past ~27 years.

I'm pretty sure that the tracks on this new EP were not specifically created to be on this record. They must have been recorded more than 5 years ago without any intention of being released, like the Trickfinger tracks were. It seems like it's the people from the label who asked John if they could release some of his acid tracks.

  • Iva

Once again, no intention of releasing something does not mean it's never going to see the light of the day - just that it may not be whatever is commercially viable by mainstream standards and that the primary reason behind its creation is, say, the love for the process itself, as opposed to putting it out there.

We all assume things. A lot. And a great deal of those assumptions comes from what somebody who knows John said for some magazine in barely-related context. Time to let go of it and just take things as they come...I think.

  • Chris

Agree, I dont even care for what reason JF releases his work, as long as he keeps doing so 😉
I was just hit by surprise (positively) to hear from a new release soon after his "audience" statement.

  • 30400v

That's for sure Iva, but I can't prevent myself from guessing what will be on the record until it's out there...
