According to reporters on location, Speed Dealer Moms' show that was supposed to go live like about...now, was cancelled and postponed until a later date (whenever that could be). "John and Aaron apologise to those they're letting down".
Here's the crowd, being told what's going on. Just so you see it's real.
The thing above was meant to be a live cast for all of you, done by wonderful Moshka who's on location. That was what the surprise was supposed to be.
UPDATE: Aaron Funk/Venetian Snares, as well as the organisators, explained that the equipment was not functioning well, as they were supposed to use old machines - rather than just do DJing. They are willing to present their work as Speed Dealer Moms, at Bangface and nowhere else. There is a possibility that they will play at the Bangface event in August (editor's note: I assume it's Bang Fest 2009).
As for the stories of John not having been present at the festival at all - he WAS there all along. People have seen him and talked to him.
Many thanks to Moshka for willing to stream the whole thing -with hopes that such a thing can be done next time, Katie for updates via Twitter from location and Carole & Fiona for texts. You are great reporters and great people for initially wanting to share your experience with all of us.

fuck
Scheisse. Poopsie.
time to save for the next speed dealer moms show !!
john put up a message on tweeter saying "thanks everyone!" did they play????
I'm 100% sure that person is not him, it's someone who's fooling around and should be reported to Twitter for impersonating John.
Do you really think he would let people interract with him?
Do you really think that someone who doesn't let people reply to his blog posts or anything like that would actually register a Twitter account and talk to people?
I don't. If he ever does something like that, I'll dye my hair green or something.
its never john on the internet, people should just get that.
But also on these websites its gettin boring, its not really about john
and when i come on here its about other people n so on.
i think should post up when there's news and photos, none of the question of the week or other enquires.
You're either not looking close enough or not coming often enough. The questions are just there for people to enjoy, all other news are more or less relevant. This one you commented on is 100% relevant. So please, don't say such things.
O RLY?
wow! that's a bummer. let's hope that they will play eventually sometimes soon. at least some fans get to see john there and talk to him!
Thank you Iva for keeping us updated
Wow this really does suck, I've been looking forward to logging on to this site and reading all about it all day! But yeah, I feel really sorry for all the guys who must have made a lot of effort to get there, a lot of them probably just to see John
Also for you Iva, it's pretty obvious you've put a lot of thought and effort into covering this for all of us! Well done anyway, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much. Everything was planned for everyone to enjoy and, well, that means it can be done some other time, though I doubt it will be so unpredictable again.
And, while running this website, I run into horrible people, horrible problems and all things horrible on a weekly basis; so I’m actually used to this. It hurts, though. However, well, it’s a proof that one can drive home with one headlight.
yeha, I was there, can't imagine my face

Ah bummer
But still I would've been happy to be there
The line-up was awsome,
whonder why Squarepusher and Aphex Twin weren't there, seen them a few weeks ago, was one of the greatest nights of my Life.
How were the peformances of Altern-8 and Flying Lotus?, would love to see them
Otto von Shirach is also great live
John Frusciante was definatley there, I was at bangface (which was an amazing festival). My friend walked past him talking to someone holding the door for him. He was reported to be describing how he "just want[ed] to do something completely different"
I personally think that the fact that JF and Venetian Snares were up all night working on fixing the synthesisers goes to show his dedication to music. Alot of people with his status and money would not have bothered (they didn't concede defeat until 3pm).
