Features
Books where John was featured on his own, not related to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
David Todd – Feeding Back
A refreshing book featuring something more than the usual guitarist stereotype – in-depth interviews with 26 guitarists who are not playing by rules, rather creating their own, ” taken together they capture a guitar tradition that runs counter to the mainstream pantheon”
Guy Oseary – On the Record
Guy Oseary interviewed over 150 artists, songwriters, directors and publishers on their favourite records, success tips et cetera. John’s interview is one of the longest and best ones in the book. Anthony Kiedis is also featured.
Jim McMullan – Musicians as Artists
Jim McMullan and Dick Gautier’s follow-up to the successful Actors as Artists book. John is one of the featured artists, with three paintings; one of which was a collaboration between him and then-toddler Clara Balzary; whom he also listed as his favourite artist.
RHCP Books
Officially released Red Hot Chili Peppers books – with memories and rare photographs.
Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History
Red Hot Chili Peppers’ official biography written by Brendan Mullen, who passed away before he got to finish it. It chronicles everything upon mid-2009 and contains a lot of never-before-seen photographs.
Other Books
These do not fit into the other two categories, but they still contain a lot of John-related snippets/anecdotes.
Bob Forrest – Running with Monsters: A Memoir
Bob Forrest’s memoir, focusing on the LA indie life of his youth, with a lot of mentions of other artists, including John.
What books count here? So far, only those where John receives a lot of mentions or is featured, solo or with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
