EquinoxIn a couple of days, there's an equinox. Also, us on the nothern hemisphere will go from summer to autumn. Those on the southern hemisphere will go from winter to spring. Either way, one of the more extreme seasons will be turning into one of the less extreme ones. And there are a lot of stories and beliefs associated to equinoxes, too.

Which one do you prefer: autumn or spring? And why? Do you have any habits related to saying goodbye to spring and winter?

10 Reactions to Saturday question #32: Autumn and Spring

  1. Sue says:

Spring and Autumn are my two favourite seasons, because the days are for the most part sunny and warm, while the nights are still cool enough to sleep. Summer (in Australia, anyway) is very hot. so I always have heaps more energy in these less extreme months.

Of the two though, Spring is most definitely my favourite. I love the sound of the birds and the smell of the blossom and jasmine and the colour of the jacaranda trees. Also, my birthday is in Spring (November), which is probably another reason why I love it so much! :)

    • orangevarld says:

Oh yes, I forgot the birds ! So good to hear them on the morning after a long time without them.

    • Paula says:

Sue I completely agree! Autumn and Spring in Australia are beautiful; warm days but cool nights. Winter is also enjoyable - sunny days with temp of 15C is hardly winter when compared to the northern hemisphere equivalent! But there's nothing worse than the excessive dry Australian heat...

  2. orangevarld says:

I like every season in its way, we need each one.
But I think I prefer spring, because it's happy, nature comes back to life and we feel more free, powerful, we feel new opportunities, we want to live, we feel new.

But autumn is good too, nature stays beautiful with orange leaves on tree etc. As the sun is more and more scarce, it means that it's time to stay more at home and to rest a little bit. That's a calm and smooth period.

PS : That's how I feel it in Belgium, but I think that in some countries, nobody speaks about spring or winter because there are other seasons (rain season, etc.) due to their position near the equator or to other climate.

  3. Kerttu says:

I love them both. As I feel I could not tolerate a life without 4 seosons. I think that spring is a really misterious time of the year as everything begins once again... and the nature wakes. But at the same time the period when winter turns to spring is the most lethal for weak or sick old people. As it is... you can survive the tough period with winter and cold but when it is time to start living again you have no strength left. So that's why I am a little bit afraid of spring (not really afraid but that's what keeps me not liking spring more than other seasons).
All seasons are great. But I hate when the season is not what it should be like. Like if it is winter I prefer load of snow and at least -5 C. Unfortunately that's not what it is usually about. The same with summer when I wish for at least 25 C but still there is just like 18 and raining. But spring and autumn are the times when I feel that anything can come and I love it. Rain, sunshine, wind, snow, whatever.. just unpredictable.

  4. Lucy says:

Love the rich, earthy colours of Autumn and the crispness of fresh days but am not so fond of the darkness descending rapidly and heralding us towards the chil of winter. We infrequently have snow, it tends towards murky dampness and gloom. I get up, drive to work in the dark and do the same homewards. Daylight becomes a stranger until the birth of spring which I love. Spring is fecundity, a rare richness of life beginning and hope. The trees wear their verdant sheen like new clothes and once more we know that one day, the sun will shine again.

  5. Ryan says:

I have a less "Earthened" view of the seasons. Autumn is horrible to me; the plants start to die and pollen attacks my sinuses. Usually I end up getting a cold or sinus infection. That must just be what I get for living in the middle of the US. =/

  6. Powaz says:

Autumn. It has the most beautiful colours. And finally the evening takes the upper hand, I always wake up early and take a walk through the dark autumn mornings. I feel the cold wind blowing to my back. Ah I love autumn. Cold and gritty.

  7. Katherine says:

I prefer the autumn time because it's right before winter, which I love. I love the trees. They're so beautiful while they're changing. I love the shorter days. There seems to be more stars visible in the autumn time. Winter nights have more, though.

  8. Katherine says:

I prefer autumn to spring because I love watching the trees turn to their magnificent colors. I look forward to the days getting shorter and colder. I love winter, and autumn just gets me ready for it. It seems like there's more stars in the winter sky than in the summer. I do go and take pictures of the trees during the autumn, but then I also take pictures in the spring. "Tree hunting" is what I call it.
