Evening Cronicle review of Curtains
02nd February 2005, Evening Cronicle, USA
*Fixed the horrible mistake of calling John an “ex” RHCP guitarist
Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist, John Frusciante, has been pursuing his solo career for more than a decade now, and his sixth album Curtains is his latest offering.
It is a difficult task to live up to such a legendary band as the Chili Peppers, and it is true that Frusciante does not really come close to their success, but he has tried to develop his own style and this album shows off his superb songwriting skills.
The album has a relaxed, intimate feel, with most songs having just a simple acoustic guitar accompaniment. Frusciante really does save the best until last, as the final tracks, Time Tonight and Leap Your Bar, are both amazing songs filled with emotion and memorable melodies.
Perhaps not as hot as the Chili Peppers, Curtains is proof that Frusciante is not just a guitarist of a famous band, but a good musician in his own right.
