Something fresh:
As presented in Sunday’s weekly site update: Thanks to amazing Marian who somehow always sniffs out John and RHCP stuff on the USA TV, there’s now a great video: some excerpts from Too Tough To Die, the documentary dedicated to Johnny Ramone. It’s showing RHCP perform I Just Wanna Have Something To Do, I Wanna Be Sedated and She’s The One from the 2004 Ramones tribute show (click for more info); brief interview snippets with AK and Flea and a slightly longer interview with John. The quality is amazing. It’s also on the videos page!
Something you googled:
I was happy and surprised that many people googled Untitled #3 from John’s amazing 2005 performance at the ATP Festival in UK, so that’s how it ended up on a playlist! It might have been the highlight of the whole set as well, as John is extremely emotional and he’s speaking the second half of the song as if he was presenting a poem, not music. Too beautiful for words and it gives a new dimension to this 1994-piece.
By the way, I know that people have been asking for audio of this event as it’s no longer available anywhere online. I’m trying to sort that out; as, naturally, I want to ask the tapers for permission.
Something ordered:
In Milano, on 30th November 2006, John sung an excellent cover of Del Shannon’s Runaway. A friend of I-M.net and the best companion for a festival with 100 000 people ever, Fiona McStay, recorded it from the pit. It looks great, it sounds great, what more could you wish for?
Something to open a good show:
Yet another 2006 RHCP show, yet another killer intro. This one’s from 01st October and it was recorded by Meek in Quebec City, QC, Canada.
Something to fill in
At the benefit held at the Silverlake Music Conservatory on 14th December 2001, RHCP’s first take on I Could Have Lied didn’t really work, so Anthony asked John to “play one of his songs”. John sang Your Pussy Is Glued To A Building On Fire and then slowly went into the band’s legendary ballad. A must-see!
Something romantic:
Don’t ever understimate a not-so-good video recording, as it may come with a beautiful song attached to it, such as this performance of Maybe from the RHCP show in Auckland, New Zealand; on 24th November 2002. After all, Maybe could as well be John’s middle name if he didn’t have one already!
Something you shouldn’t miss
As it was confirmed, John is soloing through the right speaker on all the songs off The Mars Volta’s new album, Bedlam In Goliath…so, here’s the video for Wax Simulacra to spread the love for their new album and the new single. If you look well at it and don’t blink, you’ll see John at one point. As for listening and figuring out his parts? Well, you should buy the album! Click here for information on where to get it and check TMV’s official site for everything else. This video is here solely to get you hooked on their music. And, to support them, please DIGG THIS!
Something brave, for a cover
fun0freak and Mr.Maniac from Germany have a project called The Brothers Cup and their music contains mainly of well-thought improvisations and jams. Their interesting take on John’s 23 Go Into End is on this week’s playlist, so have a listen and don’t forget to visit their MySpace page as well. They describe themselves as 2 happy people jamming. So, let ’em jam!
Some more John with the grunge guys
Here’s the second track from the guest appearance at a Pearl Jam benefit show in Santa Barbara. John was there as one of the special guests, and during the 2nd encore, he joined the band on guitar for two Ramones’ covers. One of them is I Believe In Miracles, which is featured on the playlist this week.
Some more chitter chatter for the end
I know some of you have seen it before, but this rather nice interview bit with John from the November 2006 filming of the Live from Abbey Road episode RHCP were featured at is always nice to see again. More just can’t hurt.
