John on Sexual Castle demo, “Flip The Scrip”
After having joined their forces in newly reformed WEAVE!, the band that once opened for rising stars WarPaint and the killer combo of John, Josh Klinghoffer, Flea and Stella Mozgawa at the Troubadour in 2008; Nicole Turley and Ivory Lee Carlson have formed another band – Sexual Castle.
John can be found playing guitar on one of the three demos the band posted so far, the song titled Flip The Scrip.
The music could be classified as synth pop/new wave revival, similar to what some of the more mainstream artists were doing in the ’80s and around mid-90s; but that is, as usual, not all that there is to it; so you are more than encouraged have to check it out yourself. The girls themselves claim that they make music for strawberry lovers. While all of this may sound merely passé for us people who won’t get what appears to be their inside jokes (including us here), music is music and this is good for chilling out.
The other two songs, not featuring John, can be streamed on Sexual Castle’s bandcamp page.

Thanks for the news! Always good to listen to a Frusciante's collaboration even if the I don't like the band very much.

It's nice to hear John do something funky again. 🙂
adam
johns guitar is definitely cool, but i am so over turleys singing. its so blaahhhhh.
Jenni
Yeah, Nicole is no Emily Kokal with singing and making songs.
Iva
Jenni, please refrain from posting such comments.

why should she? she's just posting her opinion. she's obviously not big on Nicole's singing, and prefers Emily's singing and songwriting. and that's ok. she didn't badmouth Nicole by trashing her. relax Iva. stuff like this makes people back away from posting anything at all. we're all fans of John's here, but we're also entitled to say when we don't like something. we don't automatically have to praise everything. which doesn't mean that we're not fans of his. it's called staying objective. cheers

You're out of context. I'm referring to "Jenni" aka Gigi aka Cady aka Greg aka Lydia aka lisa aka Vajay aka Fayva being a spammer who posts here only when he/she can start a fight. If he/she has a problem with this particular woman, that's not the problem of the rest of us here. Hope it makes sense now.

Maybe that user IS Emily Kokal and totally jealous of John's new partner?
(No, I don't think so. 🙂 )
Jenni
I think you are out of context. I'm just Jenni. Start a fight???? It may have been negative feedback but just an opinion.Spamming?? Problem with a particular woman?? Who? You? I don't know you.

I was referring to Nicole and I am pretty sure all the comments I'm referring to come from the same person. I'm pretty sure you have never contributed to a conversation here.
However, yes – by doing all of this immature crap on a website I dedicate a lot of time and love to, you don't respect my work and the contributors' work. You can do whatever you want regarding Nicole, using your own Facebook profile or whatever, use her public band e-mail, just please, leave my website out of it.

Pardon my bad English Language, but I try hard to understand to you. Iva, I love website and how you put out to make it success, but responding to negative opinions about art by making negative personal comments and then promoting the repression of free thought really makes you a queef sniffing balloonknot.
Thank you all and the song is awful waste products from a large eating session made into notes!!

You know, perhaps you're right that this person is in fact a spammer, and perhaps not, but even if so, i think it's important that you realize that you don't have to stand up personally for John, or Emily, or Nicole. Because at the end of the day, you're a fan. you're a dedicated fan that runs a cool site, i'll give you that, and thanks for running the site, but you're a FAN. and by being a overbearing and telling people what they should or shouldn't say on the internet is just silly, and it pushes people away.
I'm sure John, Nicole, and Emily are too busy and couldn't give less of a shit about what people say on here, and they certainly don't need someone who tries to defend them by telling people to refrain from posting comments. They are all adults, who have their respective careers and reputations in the music world.
Unfortunately i suppose, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, and we don't always agree with those opinions. but everyone has the right to one. even if it's not always in a glowing positive light surrounded by universal praise. I'll tell you, as much as I love John, I'm not on the same page with him with the latest releases at all. and that's ok. I still consider myself a fan and think he's a wonderful musician.
but please, chill out. you're scaring people away. it's like dealing with a 14 year old that doesn't want to hear anything even remotely less-than-positive about their idol.
Cheers
Iva
You don't get me at all.
I am not defending John or Nicole (and I would never even dream of defending Emily); but I have a steady philosophy according to which a person should not be bashing anybody whom they don't know. And my philosophy is based on personal experience. You're being patronizing without knowing much about my approach, the same way, logically, Jenni and her other numerous identities don't know anything about Nicole.
In addition to this, I don't separate people according to your categories – sorry. And John is not my "idol" either. Idolisation comes close to religion and religions cares me.
If you want to talk about this further, feel free to e-mail me instead of doing what you're doing here. Thank you.

Not bad! It has a nice groove to it…
Reolin
Well, in my opinion – that's some generic funk noodling. Very average.
I love John's music, but this one is just does not have any feelings.
nigematige
I really can't get into Nicole Turley's music unfortunately

Really enjoy the guitar part, but the rest of the song…meh…
NightHuey
not a huge fan of this track, although I like John's guitar. 🙂
(p.s. Iva: very mature. you can be sure I won't be posting here again. it obviously makes no sense. All the best)
kato kalin
Did anybody notice that the beat is almost the same as the drum machine part in the zephyr song?
And I like the track…sounds sexy ^_^
Jazzbobero
I love her voice and really dig her music. This racy sexy stuff is rad!
