A torrent of the 2000 Joy Division tribute
Longer-time listeners and those who collect live shows probably know that John, Flea and Josh had a Joy Division tribure band called Still back in 2000 and that the band played a single show at Spaceland on 10th October 2000. John took the microphone and guitar and the band performed cover versions of eleven Joy Division songs, ending their set with a rather stunning take on Love Will Tear Us Apart. The setlist was: Exercise One Disorder Twenty Four Hours Failures Shadowplay Wilderness Warsaw She’s Lost Control New Dawn Fades Colony Love Will Tear Us Apart The good news is that some kind person has uploaded the show to Dime…

More photographs on Blur Photo
Nabil of Blur Photo has uploaded a whole photo session he did with John in November (or at least the EXIF data on one of the photos says it was November) and it can be viewed here. Photos are both black and white and colour; and the scenery is quite interesting and moving. The photographer also states that John Frusciante is his favourite musician, so that probably makes the whole experience even more personal. Thanks to Lara, for the heads-up. Tip: if the above link doesn’t work for you, go to Blur Photo and select “01”.

Vote for the most expected release of early 2009
On MusicRadar’s Happy New Year page, as well as the most of other pages, the readers are encouraged to vote for the artist whose album they’re most looking forward to in the first months of 2009. The choices are Jeff Beck, Depeche Mode, U2, Neil Young, Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen and John Frusciante. So, you can vote for John. But if you want to vote for someone else, it’s perfectly fine, too. Thanks goes to Lindy, for the heads-up.

MusicRadar to publish the podcast in 2009 + more
For everyone who got upset about Music Radar’s interview page being a 404: it’s still there and you should read it carefully. In short, they have contacted John and the answers to selected questions will be posted on their website early in 2009. Also, in their own Christmas wishlists, one of the staff members,Michael Leonard, wrote: A Gretsch White Falcon – what Santa would play? Whiter than Santa’s beard and blingier than P Diddy’s Christmas tree, the White Falcon is one of those grandly-desirable instruments that only the likes of John Frusciante get to play. I’ll never likely own one – there are more sane ways to spend £2300 –…

Mike Piscitelli talks about “The Past Recedes” + new photo
Director/photographer Mike Piscitelli[1] talks about making of John’s The Past Recedes video on his blog. He also posted a high-resolution video on Vimeo, given that all the YouTube ones are of “crappy quality” and you can see it here; alongside an anecdote from the set. There’s a new photo by BLUR PHOTO from the last month’s session for The Empyrean and it’s available on the site of Japanese Rush productions website. Click on the thumbnail to go there and see it in its full size. A reminder: you can also order the 12-track version of the album in SHM-CD format on that website. The Q & A on MusicRadar is…

Charles Bock On “Cereal Song”
Charles Bock, the author of Beautiful Children shared his holiday playlist with New York times and one of the songs he picked and talked about was The Bicycle Thief’s Cereal Song. 14) Cereal Song, the Bicycle Thief (Bob Forrest w/John Frusciante). Of course, there also comes a time when other people can provide you with nothing, a time when a person looks into the abyss. The only God I could possibly believe in is a god of empathy. That God is very much present in this song. It was written and sung by Bob Forrest, the former lead singer for the influential Los Angeles band Thelonious Monster, and a recovering…
