Guitarist magazine, July 2004
Who were your guitar heroes as a kid?
As a kid it was Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Frank Zappa.
What’s in your CD player right now?
I was listening to Cicatriz, which is a song I play guitar on for the new Mars Volta album. It’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever done.
Which Guitarist do you think should be given more credit or praise?
Vinny Reilly from Durutti Column. He had such an incredible textural approach to guitar playing. The music’s just so admirable – so original.
Which of your guitars would you save from a burning building?
I’ve lost all my guitars in a fire so I know it’s not the worst thing in the world. But I guess the Gretsch White Falcon is the one I’d grab.
If you could have written any guitar solo, which would it be?
That song Tangerine on Led Zeppelin III, the solo’s incredible. Jimmy played a million solos I love, but that solo struck me as so beautiful.
What’s the greatest album ever recorded?
I’d have to say GI by The Germs. When I bought it I felt like my whole life changed from that day on. I can’t say that about any other album.
