Cincinnati Post review of TROWFTD

For a rest from radio’s pop menu or pre-fab teen craze, turn to Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante’s fascinatingly bleak, but intriguing, third solo album.
Frusciante, who successfully resurrected his career, maneuvers his eccentric lyrics around stark musical scenery made simply with guitar and a drum machine.
His gravelly croon imbues ”Going Inside” and ”Away And Anywhere’ with hypnotic grace while often injecting desperation. A restlessness is present in his lyrics, especially on darker cuts like ”Invisible Movement,” where Frusciante sings, ”They go on with or without you there.”
Ultimately, Frusciante’s innovative guitar playing and untrendy approach are bold enough to make ”To Record Only Water For Ten Days” a rewarding effort.
