John Frusciante releases ‘Inside Of Emptiness’, the latest instalment in the Record Collection series, on October 25th. The series so far has featured the solo releases ‘The Will To Death’ and ‘The DC EP’ as well as the Ataxia album ‘Automatic Writing’.
Frusciante recorded ‘Inside Of Emptiness’ in Los Angeles with Josh Klinghoffer and engineer Ryan Hewitt (Rolling Stones, Blink 182, The Roots). Three of the songs, ‘Emptiness’, ‘666’ and ‘I’m Around’, were all written whilst Frusciante was reading a biography about Aleister Crowley. He commented, “Each of these three songs, in their own way, are the result of me thinking about him and his life.” ‘Emptiness’ was further inspired by the band Empire, an offshoot of Generation X. Of ‘Interior Two’, Frusciante says, “It’s inspired by early rock n’ roll. I love that music and those types of lyrics and it is fun for me as a songwriter to juxtapose music that would have sounded current in 1958 with lyrics that go in surreal or nonsensical directions that didn’t exist in music back then.”
The final song of the album is ‘Scratches’. “We think the Rolling Stones should but it off us”, adds Frusciante.
The next instalment in the Record Collection series will be ‘A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence’, which will be released on November 25th.
