John Frusciante has been a busy boy and there’s little sign of him letting up. After years of battling his demons alone instead of playing them out in public, Frusciante is finally fast-tracking his catharsis. The Will to Death is the first of a startling six albums scheduled for release this year. If this is a sign of what’s to come, the Troubled One is on a confessional jag. The songs are sweet, droopy and fairly bristling with indie pop hooks. The big question isn’t whether Frusciante has the inspiration to make us something indelible – he does. The real question is whether he can expel the poison fast enough to escape the fate that took Kurt Cobain and Elliot Smith.
