The guitar player of Red Hot Chilli Peppers hasn’t worked for 5 years due to his almost mortal drug-addiction. At last, he managed to put up with this way of life and he immediatly returned to his band. He had the idea of making the latest Peppers’ album, the “Californication”. Its success proved his creative-force and his musical creativity. He had made two albums by the time he joined the band. The opinions on the albums greatly differed. Some people said it was simply rubbish others described it as brilliant. Compared to those two albums, the album is pure pop music. What we hear on those two albums has nothing to do with the “Peppers-sound”, it’s rather a personal demo(recording), he sings his songs and plays the guitar over mechanical drums and tunes from the synthesizer.
It’s a real solo album, because he played everything onto the album himself, except for the drums that were played by drum machines but even those he programmed himself. The time he spent apart from the band reflect his experience(in life).
” When I put up with drugs, I realized that I believed in the same things as I used to when I was addicted to drugs. But only then have I become able to place these thoughts into a close-knit system of ideas. I’ve become able to give reason(meaning) to things, unlike those people, who- when they quit drugs- think that all the things that they’ve done up to that point is worthless.- stated Frusciante when the album was released. And this album has only one defect, and that’s the trashy cover, but don’t let this decieve anyone, you’ll find(hear) first class music on the album.
