John Frusciante is a sensitive soul who’s been through a lot of shit in his life, so you hesitate to criticise him. But Christ, this album tries your patience. Coming out only a few months after his last solo effort, it’s apparently the first instalment in a series of 6 albums to be released this year.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment is that where previous outings have been courageously eclectic, ‘The Will To Death’ is just a one-paced colection of jangly AOR ballads. Definitely for Chilis completists only.
