Taking time out from his day-job as guitarist with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante forsakes vigorous funk-rock for simpler instrumentation on his third solo collection. Relying on a drum machine, special effects and guitar, Frusciante puts his idiosyncratic twist on the psychedelic rock heritage of California.

Some songs are sketchy, but there is enough in With No One and the bluesy Wind Up Space to warrant further investigation.
