It's snowing in Belgrade and I woke up to this wonderful news from an extremely polite Japanese JF listener and I-M.net reader named Shu. So, I thought I'd share this with everyone while I haven't even had my breakfast - if there any weird typos, gomenasai / I'm sorry / izvinjavam se / scusa. ^_^

This is just a picture, to make it look nicer. It doesn't really work. :OSo, if you navigate to Japanese HMV and click on the little speakers next to the song names, you can hear previews of all the songs off The Empyrean, including the bonus tracks. The interface was built on Adobe Flash Player 10, so make sure you update your installation of it, if any problems occur. Also, note that links to the player expire after a certain amount of time, so you'll always have to go back to the page to activate the player.

If you have not consulted the page with assorted links for buying specific versions of the album, perhaps this will motivate you further, as this album really is something that will sound better in lossless quality.

Once again, enormous thanks to Shu for this!

43 Reactions to Hear a preview of The Empyrean with bonus tracks!

  1. mod3stas says:

I am IMPRESSED !!! awesome songs, especially "One more of Me", he sings quite low...

    • Igor says:

On the begining I thought too, but I think he lowered his voice a bit by computer.
I think he did it like this:

      1) he highered the melody (chords and other) a little bit
      2) then he sung over that
      3) and then he lowered both tracks (melody and voice) same amount as the melody was previously highered

      I think you understand. :D

      • Sebastian says:

However he did that, i thought that it was really cool! Now that´s Frusciante at he´s best!

  2. Chris says:

In Enough of Me, surely his voice has been lowered? It sounds unnatural, and not at all what I would expect from John?!

  3. Leni says:

    Thank you!

I enjoyed it very much, can't wait for the whole album!

  4. Chris says:

Sorry, I meant to say "One more of me", not "enough of me"

  5. Powaz says:

Wow, great. Song to the Siren is greatly done though I prefer the original.

    • amour fou says:

i prefer song to the siren by this mortal coil over the original..
and i cant tell by 44 seconds if this one will be better or worse..

having said that, the 44 seconds of the tracks sound interesting

      ofcourse...

  6. Powaz says:

Oh, Iva, that's a great christmas present for you.

amour fou, no one can beat the intrument like voice of Buckley in his own songs, no one! Muwhahaha. Sorry.

  7. mery says:

OMG thank you! I just cried when I heard Song to Siren gosh he sings sooo beautiful ;) I'm really IMPRESSED

  8. Powaz says:

amour fou, it's a matter of taste and opinion. Jesus...

  9. mlove says:

one thing i take away from these great previews is maybe those last.fm track lengths weren't correct. they have 'before the beginning' at 0:30 on the site, but we just heard a 0:44 second preview?

    • Rob says:

That's a good observation. I also thought there was some law about the percentage of a song you can preview, making me doubt that God is 1:29 with a 44 second preview. I'm not used to seeing 44 second previews though so who knows.

  10. Máté says:

oh nooo! I dont want to hear them... I'm afraid it would hurt, physically, to hear the preview just suddenly end. I would miss the rest of the songs so much.
the problem is, I cant wait to hear the new songs. oh, the temptation...

    • bloodcalistadiumby says:

i listened to the bonus tracks but i dont want to give into the temptation of premature exposure. i really want to to do the dark living room for my first time listening to it

  11. alex says:

i gave in and listened to the preview......amazing... i wish i would have waited but well...... i can't wait to listen to it on my record player

  12. bentus says:

I will wait for the album. I want the whole enchilada of greatness to hit me like the way it should, playing the CD on my stereo.. Not some japanese preview on my crappy macbook-speakers..

    Bentus

  13. Natasha says:

I wish this worked for me =(

  14. frankie says:

To those who don't wanna listen to it yet: I can tell you that the beginnings sound very promising! ;)

I have a question regarding the two bonus tracks. Are those only on the Japanese version?!

Does that mean I have to order my CD from Japan, cause I just really fell in love with that very last song...

  15. Natasha says:

    nevermind!

  16. Novalise says:

I'm desperately trying to avoid listening yet, I really want to wait 'till 20th. But it's very difficult with al these exiting comments...and snow in Belgrade... the image of the city in snow gives me fuzzy feelings so I might take a listening-peek afterall  just one song.... then...

  17. chris says:

Im not listening... a 44 low fi sample.. I've ordered my CD from Japan and im going to wait, i love listening to songs loud whilst holding the artwork in your hands, reading and taking it all it.. too many times in the past have i spoilt the fun by listening to previews / leaks. Im going to try and resist this time!!

  18. Danny B says:

Do you think the full bonus tracks will be availiable off Youtube??
ive already pre ordered the album from hmv.co.uk for a reasonable £8.99 with free postage!! I will therefore miss out on the bonus tracks, not that i'd rip them off youtube to my ipod ;)

  19. eugene says:

it sounds like he's just intentionally singing lower to me. it's cool, kinda tom waits or beefhartesque. i'm anticipating this even more after the samples. really dig the tone of the songs. its interesting how he put unreachable out there first as it sounds closer to his past work than what i'm getting from the other tracks. albeit the 44 seconds of them.

  20. martina says:

this is so beautiful..i don´t know what to say.this is something different but amazing, great songs great artist and great site ..of course...beautiful..beautiful.kind regards from slovakia

  21. a no nym(f izzzzzzzzz says:

psst bonus tracks psst on youtube

  22. sean says:

Man.. the preview for God is such a bitch. Kicks in just as it cuts off!

Anyone know why japanese get bonus tracks?

  23. a no nym(f izzzzzzzzz says:

    YOUTUBE FULL EMPYREAN

  24. Tom says:

The album has leaked guys, I have it. God is amazing. God actually = Frusciante

    • Iva says:

Come on. He probably is the greatest musician of our era, but he's not God. I'm the first person who'd never run a site about God and devote this much time to God.

      • frankie says:

Whether God exits or not, that's a personal opinion.
But thank you Iva for that comment.
I find it extremely silly that fans are constantly calling him God.
I doubt that John likes to be called God, especially since he despises the whole fame and ego stuff that much.

  25. Laura says:

These songs are GORGEOUS sounding! I can't wait to get the album and listen to each song in its entirety. I think it will be a beautiful album.

  26. Tom says:

Jeeez, obviously I do not actually think John is 'God', I was just enjoying the album and in a good mood.

  27. jason says:

I don't think people mean it literally when they say John is a God but I can't help but feel just a little annoyed when someone is called a God

  28. Dan says:

WOW, nothing like someone turning opinion into fact is there?
Especially with something as sensitive and as meaningful as a subject like God

I mean there's having opinions and expressing them and then there's just writing off people's whole belief systems just because you disagree with a certain aspect of them or with them entirely.
That seems like a very disrespectful and hate filled thing to do...in my humble opinion

And Johns not God, hes just bloody brilliant as what he does
    His new album also rocks
