Bang Fest definite line-up and more info added to the event’s website
For everyone heading over to Bang Fest to see Speed Dealer Moms - or any other of the artists from the festival's rich line-up, here's some additional information.
The lineup appears to be definite and you can click on the image of the poster to see it all properly. Looks like it's going to be an amazing party!
Also, the organisators have been so kind to provide detailed instructions on how to get to the location, including an interactive map.
If you're still doubting if you should go or not, there are less than 1000 tickets left, so you should make up your mind. And, of course, if you're going and are kind enough to record some stuff, tweet from the event, take photos of film some of it/all of it, do drop me a line. Just remember that the biggest reward is making everyone happy!

The main reason he never gets the respect that he truly deserves is that he never-ever works with renowned musicians. IT’S SO SAD TO SEE THE BEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD PLAYING ALONG WITH MINNOWS SUCH AS RAPPERS(i forgot the name of that rap group) OR SPEED DEALER MOMS!!!…..What John does is totally in contrast to what die-hard fans of his try to promote when they discuss his qualities with those who are not familiar with his genuis or are not taken away by his magic, because the moment we start talking about his innovative style, they crack us down by referring to such mediocre projects that he gets involved in.
John, please don’t disparage yourself.
Oh c’mon give it a rest. If anything I respect John more for the wide variety of music he is involved with. Going from something as low-fi and acoustic as Curtains to playing with Wu-Tang Clan, The Mars Volta, and Aaron Funk takes a musician who transcends genres. I’d love to see Petrucci, Friedman, or Satriani TRY and hang with Venetian Snares, Omar, or RZA…
Screw Bang Fest, screw people who have nothing to worry about, are you safe? Is your family safe?
Since I have a feeling that mail is blocked more or less (and that it’s always been blocked, more or less), I meant to ask you this next time you comment on the site.
And I don’t mind what John’s doing as soon as he acts like someone who’s 39 and not someone who’s 12. Knowing members of the opposite gender and my 69 year old dad who makes poo jokes at the dinner table…well, that’s hard.
Did I say something wrong
I’ll email you in a minute. The summary: no, you didn’t, not at all.
In fact, nobody did.
1. John doesn’t play with Speed Dealer Moms – he is, in fact, one half of it. So, if you call Speed Dealer Moms poor (remember: you and nobody has ever heard anything from them), you call John at least “half-poor”.
2. John, in my opinion, is no longer a great guitarist, but a great musician – he is good at whatever he does – whether that’s calm acoustic or freaky electronic stuff. – Let him experiment, I say, and collaborate.
3a. How can you not like The Mars Volta?
3b. Venetian Snares is awesome, too – although I can somehow understand when people don’t like this genre that much (at first).
4. I think you hold on to the past a fair bit too much. – Do you even like The Empyrean?
5. Why do you care if non-fans like John’s collabs? YOU don’t like them – that’s your problem, not theirs.
I’d like to go to bangface, but it’s too expensive. :-/
null Don’t get me wrong, I really do respect everyone’s comment, but how can you call them low-level collaborations? Stars are made of the media and it looks like you tend to associate good music with popular people?!?!? Sorry but I don’t share this opinion…
I like the Wu-Tang Clan’s music, it’s some of the best rap that’s been made. And RZA is a great producer and I can see why he and John would like each other.
I don’t really get the Venetian Snares music but I haven’t listened to much music of that style. If John found someone he likes making music with, I hope he’s enjoying the experience. Some of the bangface artists look really interesting – like some reggae inspired stuff? I love reggae. I feel if I went I might not like all of it but I’m sure I’d like some of it, and I’d try and listen to Speed Dealer Moms with an open mind.
And I think I’ve said this before, behnood, but it seems so anti the spirit of the Chili Peppers. Anthony even mentions Public Enemy in Power of Equality. PE songs sound amazing, great production, and have something to say – like the Wu Tang Clan. If you don’t like it at least you can admit that maybe you don’t appreciate it, but understand that John does and not call the people minnows.
IMO an artist has to accept that fans may not like everything he does, but fans need to keep an open mind too, and realize that artist knows what to do to keep himself fresh and inspired and that may not be guitar solos 24/7, even if that’s what you want. It reminds me of my Dr.’s office where there’s a chart that says “Dr responsibilities” and “patient responsibilities.” It’s not your responsibility to like everything he does but it’s not John’s responsibility to only make the music you want him to make. I hate to keep responding to behood but where is the freaking love? I’m not feeling it.
I went to bangfest to see John, and I must admit the whole vibe of it was something that’s never attracted me in the least before. I’ve never been into rave/dance/electro/techno or whatever was advertised there and I really didn’t know what to expect. Must admit I was pleasantly surprised, not only by the friendly low key atmosphere of everything — ok there were a lot of spaced out folk there but regardless – and the music itself was not what I expected, I actually found myself really being able to forget the world and dance myself into the ground without anyone caring or staring at whatever I was doing. It’s saddening to see anything remotely judgemental – I’m perfectly happy that we have John with us creating music of whatever genre he likes – does it matter if he doesn’t just play elongated guitar solos all the time? Much as I love the Chilis – I’d much rather any of John’s solo stuff anyday – at least you don’t get all the hype and crap that goes alongside. It was a shame the Speed Dealer Moms show didn’t happen, but I’d have missed it anyway so the fact that he’s coming to do Bangfest and over here made me the happiest. Please don’t criticise – follow John’s own advice – opening up your mind is fun – I did.
Collaborations can only be “disparaging” to one of the parties if there is no mutual respect involved, or if they are not proud of the work they’ve done together.
The fact that Speed dealer Moms are so keen to play at Bang Fest, would suggest that neither of these factors apply here.
Also, collaborations have the potential to be really innovative and mutually beneficial. Aaron and John both bring different things to the creative process. And who knows, the combination of these might produce something really interesting!!
