The 27th Saturday question is on and no, that does not mean SQs will face a tragic death after this one. Time for something happy and, for a change, not related to music. As a person who made the visual art baby steps by getting involved with animated movies at the age of 11, I would like to talk with you all about cartoons. The other reason is just "because". I know we had a cartoon-related question back in May, but art is art and doing these things out of the ars gratia artis principle is just too bloody awesome. ^_^
What are your favourite cartoons?
What are your favourite cartoon characters?
Have you ever been involved in making cartoons? If so, post links to your cartoons or drawings in comments!

The Simpsons and also the Southpark are my favorites....The Simprons series represents the altitude of innovation....and for sure, Homer is the best cartoon character ever!
I also love The Simpsons and Southpark, and would add Futurama to round out my top three. As for favourite cartoon characters, I can't go past Zack Brannigan and Eric Cartman
Dunno if you would call it a cartoon but I love FF7:AC, also Last Order, which is a prequel to the PS1 game Final Fantasy 7. Love the animation/cartoons in the tv show 'The Mighty Boosh'. Also the usual favourites: Southpark, The Simpsons, Family Guy etc...I'd love to try animation with a super 8 camera one day...not sure if my drawing skills are quite good enough though lol...
john as character in the simpsons, cuz i don't mind cute toons or animals.
The Simpsons for a very long time, and Futurama, at least as good.

Pipi in Melkijad! (:
Homer Simpson forever
Jazz jackrabbit!! : ) A fairly under-the-radar cartoon character, but very cartoonish.
Jazz jackrabbit is a videogame series but it has many animated-cartoon elements.
The humor, the uniqueness of the stories within the video games!
I was waiting for this reply all my life, to be honest. Jazz is my number one and I wish there was a cartoon about him, his attitude is amazing, he's a real hero and he's green! I love Tom of Tom & Jerry, Donatello from TMNT, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Droopy...but Jazz could've kicked Bugs Bunny's and Bucky O'Hare's ass! Spaz is amazing too...so are the lizards who say "Doo-daa".
Dangermouse, amazing! Dangermouse, astounding! Dangermouse! (you have to know the tune to really get this) and his sidekick Penfold (bespectacled suit wearing hamster) villains Baron Silas Greenback (evil toad) and Stiletto (hench crow) Wonderful ironic take on the Bond theme from the lamented Cosgrove Hall studios. Not to mention Bagpuss but does he qualify as a cartoon? Neverthless he rocked in a zen way.
for cartoon characters it would have to be stewie griffin from family guy, but if we're allowed characters from games it would either be link from the legend of zelda series or a lesser well known one, gex gecko, the one voiced by leslie phillips
Has anyone listened to how great the muscians are who created the soundtracks for cartoons? Listen to some of the old Popeye cartoons and such. You have to be able to turn on a dime, musically speaking. FF to pp instantly. From angry to whimsical in a beat. Crazy insect, animal, emotional sounds...really amazing. Movie theaters used to employ musicians who had to improvise music on the fly for silent flicks. Imagine doing that for a living! Talk about versatility in playing styles. I know we were supposed to talk about our favorite characters, but I wanted to point out how the music is still really important to your enjoyment because the right music helps bring the character to life. It creates the internal nuances. Some of us, where I live, have discussed renting a local movie theater and doing a live music/movie/cartoon evening. If anybody has ideas for movies or cartoons, we could put them into consideration. It would be a blast...challenging for sure, but great fun!
spike jones & his wacky wacketeers = toon-music & sounds inventor.
Thanks for the Spike Jones info. I just checked out some of his stuff from the mid 40's. Auditory Slapstick. Some of it is laugh-out-loud, tickle funny. Playful. Good material for thought! We might have to load our drummer down with a lot more weird gadgets for fun sounds....where is Trilok Gurtu when you need him?!!
I'm gonna give some love to Rocko, the lovable wallaby star of Rocko's Modern Life. Thinking about that show brings back some good childhood memories. I also enjoy the animations of David Firth of fat-pie.com, who is best known for the Salad Fingers series of flash animations. I love the creepy, surreal atmosphere he tends to create, and his sense of humour.

One of my favorites.
This is a pretty cool saturday question xD Back when I was younger (like 9 or 10) I really loved to watch cartoons, todays it's more like animes...and sometimes cartoons^^ I always watched stuff like Batman (the first animated series from 1992, not this Batman beyond synopsis other crap) and Spider Man (the one from 1994). I also really liked Biker Mice From Mars and Street Sharks....man, that were some good old times...I almost forgot about Freakazoid, Pinky and Brain, Bugs Bunny, Animaniacs and stuff. Some good old times...I think I'm gonna watch some again...Nowadays I like to watch The Simpsons, Avatar, South Park and Family Guy and stuff...
