RHCP back in early 90sAccording to numerous media reports, Red Hot Chili Peppers are amongst the candidates to enter the Rock And Roll hall of fame in March next year; together with some other artists who are eligible for the first time and a bunch of veterans who have not made it yet.

Rolling Stone have a long story on this, which you can read here and an excerpt follows:

The ballot for next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis are up for nomination alongside the Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Chantels, the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release, so all the candidates released their first single no later than 1984. LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both made the ballot on their first year of eligibility.

They also posted a nice old photo of the band, which you can see in its full size, at this address.

The same news item was also on Yahoo!, Daily Swarm and E Online.

Now it's your turn! What do you think? Are RHCP going to make it to creme de creme on their first year of eligility or will their wait be as long as Kiss'?

14 Reactions to Red Hot Chili Peppers nominated for Rock’n'Roll Hall Of Fame

  1. Gabriela says:

YES ! GOOOO RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS !!!

  2. Caleb says:

I dont know. Kiss? Nahh, I think RHCP would win before Kiss would. Kiss is good, but they're more about the costumes and the hair and money. RHCP is about the music, soul and funk. And RHCP actually created diverse music at the time when they first started, where as Kiss, everything sounds the same.

    • Baro says:

I don't know what to say. While you're right, Kiss is more of a mythical band than the Chilis (just ask around).

      • yuley says:

have to agree with this ... chilis better musically but kiss probably is more legendary/well known/"mythical" for whatever reason... this is pretty much a fact... who knows how it will effect things for the hall of fame though...

  3. Carolina Ferraz (gabi's sister) says:

yeahhhhhh !!! RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS CAME BACK!

  4. Becca says:

The Chili Peppers have it in the bag!! ;-) ;-) ;-) When they come together they create musical magic. They each bring their own flavor and when put together, the result is such a tasty treat!! I want more!!!

  5. kev says:

  RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS ES MUY FANSTASTICO!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Kelly Freeman says:

If RHCP aren't inducted, it wouldn't be because they didn't deserve. These guys have earned a slot!

  7. Slim Boy says:

nominated the first year of their eligibility !! and they will be inducted !!

  8. Michael says:

yes if maddonna and run dmc (how ever popular they were) can make it into the rock and roll hall of fame, RHCP will blow through, chili peppers are one of the few bands around that can play instruments well and that are meaningful

  9. lucy says:

They definitely deserve it- I know people go on about how they've changed their sound but that's just evolution. For a band to have kept the wholeness that they have through the personnel changes (for whatever reason) that they've had and still maintained the honesty and depth and sound that they have (which hasn't changed, even if their essential style has), to not make it would be stupid. They've influenced so many other musicians and so many fans on what else they listen to now and yet they've never lost that loyalty and they've ridden out whatever change has taken place outside and it would be stupidity for them not to get in. They are such an example of how the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Yeah my opinion is skewed because I'm such a big John fan but not to the degree where I can't see that any other singer/drummer/bassist wouldn't alter the band, the Chilis is them and they're all either a continuum or a development of what went before them or neither because they were there from the start. Bands that people fall in love with and stick with for years through whatever are a dying breed and the Chilis are one of the last truly original examples of that and apart from anything else, after the time they've been around they just deserve it.

  10. Gili says:

I'm with lucy.. Every word. I'm 20 years old and i loved them already when i was 5. I didnt knew who they were, i loved the music. 4 years later i rediscovered them as RHCP and since then theire music is my life..

  11. As I am unsure what the criteria they use, I cant say whether the RHCP will get it. I hope to god they do. The impact that Frusciante and the rest of the band have had on my life is immense. He inspires me to play guitar, which I love. Therefore, by my own criteria, they already are Hall of Famers  To be honest though, all the acts have their own right to be on the list. But RHCP in Derby, England, my hometown, was the best gig I have attended.
