Anthony Kiedis and Flea praise John in pre-release Fuse interview

The other day, on the eve of the release of the comeback album I’m With You which was performed in its entiety and aired live in cinemas across the world and on a , the Red Hot Chili Peppers sat down with Fuse for a quick sneak-preview series of interviews. In the second video clip, Anthony Kiedis and Flea touch the subject of John and his departure from the band and give him a little more praise.

Anthony Kiedis: We’re a band made up of four people; we all contribute a lot, so when John left, I didn’t feel like it was that kind of—it was a heavy change, but it didn’t seem like a devastating change, it just seemed like a heavy change.

Interviewer: So, unlike them, it never occurred to you that it might be it?

Anthony Kiedis: Well, it occurred to me that they might not want to carry on, but I felt like it was an opportunity being created for everybody: an opportunity for John to go do what he wanted to do and an opportunity for us to do something different and fresh, and with somebody that we could be a little more functional in this era with.

Flea: On that, just to—we’d really like to express my, and, I guess, our, gratitude for John. He gave us so much—he gave us infinite and enormous creative contributions as a songwriter, as a musician, to everything that we were over the last fifteen years with him and really, he’s just the greatest, and so grateful for us and we’re so lucky to have had the opportunity to be with him together doing what we did.
