An invite-only show, radio show and a real show…

RHCP had an invite-only show in LA, at the Troubadour (John played a solo show there in 2001, remember?) last night and people who got in are mostly band’s friends. If I have more info on it in future, you’ll surely hear about it…

However, the show on Saturday, held by KROQ-FM (106.7) wasn’t invite only. It was the anual Weenie Roast y Fiesta concert at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, and here are some nice excerpts from the review seen on Calendar live:

The Chili Peppers’ closing set reaffirmed the L.A. quartet’s status among rock’s elite. Songs from the new “Stadium Arcadium” double-CD package added maturity and musical range to the already-impressive repertoire without any loss of the rowdy, punk-funk spirit and showmanship that has been the trademark for more than 20 years.

And guitarist John Frusciante, ever more the marvel with his Hendrix-and-beyond flights, added a lovely, irony-free solo rendition of the Bee Gees’ “How Deep Is Your Love.”

Also, according to the RHCP official site, there’s another show at the Toronto added to the list of upcoming ones. It will be held on September 26th at the Air Canada center. Tickets are already available for this event.
