An update of the “unusual rumour” entry
You have probably seen this one already. Well, I have searched the internet, as I do not dare to bug call the concert agencies and newspapers yet and I have found a pretty much revealing article on MTS Mondo portal, the site of my mobile phone services provider. For those who are comfortable with the west-Balkans languages, here’s a link to the original article…for everyone else, here’s a translation I did:
Peppers in Beograd!? Gossip or the truth?
They’d promised us Rolling Stones back then and the new story among the music experts in Beograd is that the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be coming here in June this year!?
We have heard way too much stuff from various concert promoters during the past couple of years to believe in a story like this straight away. However, this information has been let out by a couple of local newspapers on their websites, but they’re suggesting that the information is still unofficial. Some say they would come on 15th, some on 26th June. “Blic” [newspaper] suggests that they have tried to check the information by contacting the most famous concert promoters in the country, but they’ve only found out that all of them send offers to the band’s management, but that the confirmations might or might not arrive. It is widely known that the Peppers are very expensive, so not many of the promoters in Serbia could offer to organise such a mega-spectacle.
The C.E.O. of “Komuna”, Maksa Ćatović denies that his company is involved in his story.
“We have sent an offer to the band’s management, an offer same as the ones sent by other European promoters. But recently, we have got a notification that the band will play in only 12 European cities. They have also promised us that, if the band decides to add more tour datres, they will surely come here. According to that, if the information about them coming on 26th June is correct, that could mean that, on the insisting of band members, Beograd has been added to the list of the 12 cities they would play at this summer, also that they might be coming here as a result of being asked to by friends or a political party”, Ćatović says.
In the producer organisation “Music Star Production”, the interest for bringing the American band over is huge, but they still don’t have informations about Peppers coming to Belgrade. It is also not a secret that the organisators of EXIT tried to invite the band over a couple of times, but they are also denying that they have something to do with these strong rumours.
On the other side, Wolfgang Klinger from the Vienna-based agency “Rock And More”, with whom some of our promoters work with, says:
“According to my sources, Peppers are definitely coming to Serbia, but I don’t know the concert date nor who’s organising the concert”, he said for ‘Blic’.
Newspaper ‘Press’ also says that the Peppers are coming to Serbia and they’re citing that they’ve got the information for ‘more reliable unofficial sources’.Let’s hope that this is true!
