John feels for Synaesthesia Records
As mentioned earlier, the first RHCP show in Melbourne was closed by a special jam that John dedicated to a music store downtown that’s closing, called Synaesthesia Records. Here’s an article on that from Herald Sun:
FAB Moretti appearing on stage with Har Mar Superstar wasn’t the only intriguing moment of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl. The group’s guitarist, John Frusciante, closed the first Melbourne show on Sunday night by dedicating two minutes of electronic feedback created on his guitar pedals to a local record store.
“They’re closing down and there’s no store like it anywhere in the world,” Frusciante told the crowd. “You guys are going to miss it, even if you don’t know what it is.”
The store in question was the little-known Synaesthesia Records, which is located on the second level in Block Place. After tracking the joint down, Confidential discovered Frusciante had returned to the store yesterday to hang out there on its last ever trading day.
“He’s into f@#&ed-up music and so are we,” store owner Mark Harwood explained to us. “There’s not many places in the world that do what we do.”
For those readers (like us) who can’t place that particular genre of music, apparently Harwood is referring to experimental music. Harwood said Frusciante had become a fan of the store after dropping in four years ago.
