Weekly playlist: 10th-17th December 2007.
If you’re seeing something new in the sidebar, nope, your eyes are not fooling you. This is an idea I came up with a couple of days ago and after a successful beta-test during the weekend, it’s online now: Invisible Movement’s very own weekly playlist, containing a mishmash of audio and video of John, RHCP and some more for you to enjoy.
If you’re not seeing a player with a playlist underneath, you need to download the Adobe Flash Player and restart your browser afterwards. The feature has been tested on Internet Explorer 7.x and Firefox 2.x; but I believe it works on the most major browsers as well. I’m afraid it won’t work for users who browse the side using their PDA devices, mobile phones, hi-tech toasters and bedside lamps; so have a look at this once you’re near a real computer. Dial-up users, I’m sorry, but this is going to eat your nerves.
Here’s a brief list of what’s on the playlist. To read more about it and see where you can get the last one if you liked it, click the “read more” link.
- 2003: McM Special in 3 parts
- The String Quartet tribute to RHCP: Dani California
- 2006, 07th December: Blue Sunday
- 2006, 07th December: I’m Eighteen
- 2007, 26th June: SOS
- 2007, 06th July: SOS
- 1998, 06th September: Your Song
- 2006, 22nd November: An interview with XFM radio
Something chatty:
Three interview clips from the 2003 McM special on RHCP, where all four members are talking about recording of By The Way, the chemistry among them. Anthony, Chad and Flea all focus on John, his creativity and what he brings to their music. It’s wonderful to see it and hear it. There’s a short live snippet of one song, but I won’t tell you which one, see for yourself. ^_^
Something promotional:
Invisible Movement is very proud to announce that The String Quartet put out their new CD: Strung Out volume 3 – The String Quartet Tribute To Alternative Rock Hits. They have covered three RHCP songs in a very unique fashion on this CD and the one we’re listening to this week is Dani California. If you like it, the CD is available on iTunes and it is also available for purchase on the Vitamin Records website. I enjoyed listening to the same notes played on different instruments and strings & winter are the greatest combination ever so…give it a try, you won’t regret it. If you’re not enjoying classical music, this might change your views.
Something borrowed:
Four covers, two from 2006, two from 2007: Blue Sunday and I’m Eighteen from the show in Vienna on 07th December 2006, as recorded by Dmitri Fedoruk (both are available as regular downloads here; SOS from RHCP’s 26th June 2007 set at Green Fest as recorded by me (also already available here); and another SOS from Paris on 06th July 2007, as recorded by Gizem Kockesen (will be up as a regular download soon).
Something to just listen to:
Two audio files are on the list as well: a cover John did of Elton John’s Your Song at one of the first RHCP shows following his return to the band, in Las Vegas on 06th September 1998; and an interview John did for radio XFM in London prior to the “secret” show the band did at the Roundhouse on 22nd November 2006. This one is regularly available in the downloads & rsaquo; audio › interviews section, but I am aware that some people have problems navigating a complicated site so there you go, it’s on the front page now. In the interview, John is talking about his love for UK and British music.
I’m hoping to make this weekly playlist feature permanent and, of course, visitors of Invisible Movement are being asked for their input. What would you like to see/hear for a week? There are only two rules 1) I got to have it (duh) and 2) No officially released material, no TROWFTD videos and nothing that’s unsuitable for viewers under 16 years of age.
Either way, send your ideas in before the weekend and I’ll see what I can do about it.
Also, if you have covered any of John’s songs or covered a song he’s previously covered and you’re brave enough to put it onto public display for a week, send it over; I’ll gladly feature it here!
