Site updates

Site updates – 21st December 2008

Once again, I’m sorry for the delay regarding the “regular” updates. A bunch of things were happening the last couple of weeks. All I ask of you is not to push when you see that the updates of this kind are not happening for a while. There usually is a good reason for that, or a couple of good reasons. Someone or something might have gotten crippled, someone or something might have died, something could have been broken and in need of a repair…or, why not, all those things at once; which was the case now.

So, do enjoy the updates. And horribly overdue music features will be added within the next two days. This time for real.

Interface changes, precisely comments-related
First of all, the software powering this site was upgraded and there are some significant changes on the front-end, particularly regarding the comments. I do not know how many of you were aware that it was possible to reply to a specific comment rather than the news item itself, as this function was handled by a plugin; as I noticed many of you were not using it and often specifying to whom you were replying to. Either way, from this point on, that is no longer necessary. The reply links are clearly defined underneath each comment in the thread and, if you click Reply, it will be more than obvious that you’re replying to one of the fellow commenters. Some additional visual elements were applied, to make it easier for you. Also, Gravatars are back. If you’re a frequent commenter and you don’t want a randomly-generated little weird monster next to your name, get one those.

In addition to this, there are some minor issues regarding the single display of commentless news items, but that will be fixed shortly. Until then, if a sidebar is displaced when you’re the first person to comment on something: yes, I’m aware of that and there’s no need to report the problem. Also, the comment pages aren’t paged at the moment, but they will be paged again in near future. Same goes for the video display which is buggy right now. Have patience, please.

Lyrics to Ah Yom
Lyrics to Ah Yom have been added to the site almost two weeks ago, but as there were no posts with updates in the meantime, perhaps the majority of you hasn’t seen that. They’re here, many thanks to Chris Phillips for sharing.

Some scans of Me And My Friends
Me And My Friends is, as said earlier, splendid book. And everyone who likes RHCP and photography as a form of art should get it. Until then, I’ll be posting some scan in lower resolution, little by little. They do not justify the quality of the images in the book itself, so, seriously, get the book. And the scans have their own section in the gallery. More to come soon.

Magazine scans
Long-term RHCP fans probably remember the Rockinfreakapotamus zine that was sent to members of the fanclub. Despite the fact that John was not in the band during the times it was being published, it would frequently feature an update on him. So did an issue from 1994, scanned and uploaded here. Many thanks to Jason for this gem.

Random scans
…of not-so-good quality can be found in the 1989 mix collection.

Anyone up for l’amour?
Alright, this was unbelievably corny. All I wanted to do was give you a clue that the uploaded show, in mp3 and FLAC, was recorded in Paris, on 03rd February 2001. It sounds good, even though John was a bit sick (having a cold) and the audience is in a great mood. There’s also a radio version of Going Inside from the day before attached (so it wouldn’t be alone on its own page) and you can get it all here. There’s a cover of Bauhaus’ King Volcano, a funny moment when the echobox fails and rarely-ever-performed Song For Toni, which John dedicated to his friend and ex-partner, ms. Toni Oswald.

Videography page
Videography page has been added to the site, to avoid confusion regarding the (un)availability of videos for John’s solo albums. Brief descriptions of each known video are included, alongside some screen captures to represent them. Note that screencaps of 2001 videos are on their own page, linked, so read carefully.

Transcripts
One of I-M.net community resident Germans, Pia aka moonlight, was so kind to translate and transcribe a lengthy interview John did for Deutschlandfunk back in 2004. You can now read the transcript, in English, on this page. Corrections coming soon.

Magazine articles
The 1994 Rockinfreakapotamus article is available in text-only form, on this page.

Also, both outtakes to the Hillingdon Mind interview are now available on a page of their own.

Album reviews
There’s a newly-found review of Smile, from an unknown source.

A page for readers’ videos
Since one more person, Zak Forrest, made a video for one of John’s songs, I decided it would be a good idea to make a page for such videos. So, from now on, you can view all reader-made videos on this page.

Vanessa’s extraordinary art pieces
Vanessa Ribeiro aka brodare is a comic artist from Portugal and she asked me to put some of her art pieces in the fanart gallery. She has a lot of traditional work and this is only a small selection, as many of her other pieces are sort of questionable for Invisible Movement’s policies. If you’re interested, you can have a look at them at her DeviantArt page.

Reader-submitted wallpapers
There’s a new wallpaper, by Markus. It’s about the border-line of what can be displayed on this website, but I assume some people will enjoy it.

Readers’ cover songs
An incredible cover of Your Pussy’s Glued To A Building On Fire by Dennix was added to the readers’ covers page.

Readers’ music pages
The directory of readers’ music pages has been updated. Check out Ricky Wilson.

Art feature for November
Yes, November. This is how late things are sometimes, so there’s still space to feature someone for this month AND prepare the feature for January. November’s feature is Katarzyna JabÅ‚oÅ„ska of Poland.
