John chords and Satriani’s comment on departure in Guitar World, April 2010

Guitar World April 2010 cover imageThere’s yet another snippet concerning John in the April 2010 issue of Guitar World. This time, it does not concern his departure from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, as the last month’s one-page feature did, it’s about what really matters – music and playing style. The snippet concerns seventh chords. For everyone who needs help finding the magazine- this issue of Guitar World has a psychedelic cover with a Jimi Hendrix headshot in the centre, just like on the preview thumbnail of this article.

In addition to this, elsewhere in the magazine, Joe Satriani is asked about John’s departure. A question that appeared to be asked in a jokingly manner started out with a joke response as well, but then it drifted down to a serious one.

GW: Josh Klinghoffer has recently taken the place of John Frusciante in the Chili Peppers. So tell me, why didn’t you get the gig?
SATRIANI: [laughs] Yeah, why not, right? Hey, it’s not like I didn’t drop hints: I played some Chili Peppers songs backstage, hoping Chad would pick up on it. Actually, I was pretty shocked to hear the news that John Frusciante had quit again. I thought [the group’s 2006 album] Stadium Arcadium was a terrific record that really showed off his playing. It’s the most “John Frusciante” of all their albums. Chad never mentioned that John was leaving, at least not to me. It’s a pretty big deal for the band. We’ll see what happens.
