Fantastic Nature contest results – congrats to Haley B!
This was meant to be posted as soon as we drifted into this day, but something was wrong with about 1/4 of the system, it kinda blew up, so I’m sorry for this delay. Also, this never happened. OK?
So, in the end, only five people were brave enough to take this challenge and distort their views of nature, trying to envision it in a different light. I am not quite sure what kind of an impact the rules had on the possible participants, but I assume that disallowing fan art and the fact that it required some effort did make some people uninterested. There will be more simple contests in the future, like the March one, but there will, however, be more of them as complicated as this one, as creativity is a beautiful thing that needs to be nourished. And there will always be that no fanart rule, I’m sorry.
The winner of the contest was pretty hard to determine as four out of five pieces were constantly switching their positions and had a theoretical chance of winning. Until the last voter submitted their votes, any of them could have won.
The winner of the contest is Haley B, with a total of 23 points. The piece won 3 points from only 2 out of 16 judges, but it was in top 3 in 13 out of 16 judges’ selection, unlike any of the other pieces, so it definitely means everyone liked it. Congratulations to the winner, please contact me with your data, so the person who’s in charge of getting the award to you once it’s actually out. Congratulations to the other four participants – halcyon, Shade, Pune and Chili_Pat, for having submitted such great pieces, as it was very fun to present them to judges and see how their opinions differ. Some people did not like psychedelia, some were enormously crazy about the anthromorphic cartoon, some appreciated the sincerity of childlike wax-pastel drawing and some
Here’s a little gallery of the participants’ original artwork in the following order: Pune, Shade, Chili_Pat, halcyon and Haley B.
A total of 16 judges, amongst them me, three of the board moderators, Leni, Rebecca and 10 other fans and friends, including one professional artist, gave 3, 2 and 1 points to pieces they liked, respectively. This means that an ideal piece, if there was one, would’ve gained a total of 48 points. However, these versatile pieces of art all deserve a mention. So, we decided that the runner-ups should get at least word-of-mouth appreciation. ^_^
– halcyon’s piece was voted most original.
– Shade’s piece was voted cutest overall.
– Pune’s piece was voted most favourited, as it got most 3 point ratings.
– Chili_Pat’s piece was voted most sincere.
Once again, congratulations to Haley B and good luck to everyone next time. May contest will be announced sometime soon, likely after the Mayday holidays.
EDIT: Oops, I screwed up the title. If it appears to you as “Test aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”, something failed there. Oops, oops, oops, oops! How embarrassing, to forget basic things. Sorry! O____o
