Fantastic Nature contest is on – 28th March to 26th April 2010

A simple piece of art to represent the contestIt hasn’t been long since the March contest and its results and we’re already heading to another contest in April.

After many people really loved the so-called Super-Secret Project and the spontaneous showing of support in 2009, I thought it would be really interesting to do something art-related this time. However, all the above contents had some sort of limitations – this one will only have a theme. It will be a lot like the May 2008 contest that was, sadly, canceled.

Nature has always been somehow tied closely to the things covered on this website – and with the most recent interesting project the subject of this website is a part of, it surely came forward to the front row. At the same time, the other side of these influences and a theme breaking through everything has always been fantasy. On that note – the subject of this competition is FANTASTIC NATURE. Your goal is to do a piece of art representing a trippy, crazy, freaky ecosystem/habitat, with plants, trees, flowers and animals looking as crazy as possible – let them come out from the deepest corners of your mind. They can have limbs anywhere you want them, even if they’re plants. They can be wildest combinations imaginable, true wonders of nature and your minds. The most beautiful thing about this contest is imagination, not necessarily being a winner.

Allowed techniques:
Drawing, painting, photo manipulation, collage, cartoons, comics, animations, dolls, various forms of artisan crafts, ASCII art video.

What’s not allowed:
– Written forms. You can have prose or the other p-thing accompanying your art, but not only that.
– Listen-only forms. You can have music accompanying your video, but not just music.
– Dedications and fan art – if you can’t do anything without such motifs, you might want to seek counseling.
– Humans, in any shape or form, unless they’re in costumes of animals and plants.
– References to any drug or alcohol – this competition is about natural heights.
– Nudity. When roaming around crazy places like those your artwork will represent, you have to be fully dressed.

How to submit:
– Comment on this entry. with a link to your submission or, if it’s in .jpg or .png format, your submission attached to the entry. Videos can be attached to comments too, if they’re hosted on YouTube, as there’s an automatic embed button. If you need help on posting images, check this handy tutorial and use the step 5a.

What not to do:
– Read the “What’s not allowed” bit.
– Do not use something that was not created by you and you only.

The prize is, very fitting, a copy of Swahili Blonde’s Elixor Fixor 7″ vinyl. Unlike in the previous competition, nobody’s really sponsoring the award here – a friend of this website liked the idea of the competition and offered to reserve the prize. Depending on the quality of submitted pieces of work, there might be more awards. If you have anything interesting lying around – a magazine, CD, vinyl, book – and you would like to give it away, please contact me. It would be really fitting to give out four awards in this competition overall, as four is such an important number in so many ways.

The deadline for submitting your artwork is midnight of 23rd April and the next couple of days will be spent sorting out the pieces of work and then the jury, consisting of board moderators (one of them asked and that simply implied others being included), the award donor(s) and yours truly will vote on the submitted pieces.

The winner(s) will be announced a little after midnight Central European Time on Monday, 26th April 2010 and we’ll see how many are getting the big shiny. ^_^ Since this is one of the competitions with the long-lasting effects (and we don’t even know how long), later on, some of the participants might just be surprised with being selected for an additional award.

This entry will be updated with information on additional awards, responses to participants’ questions et cetera. In addition to that, it helps a lot to follow I-M.net on Twitter and friend it on Facebook, as that’s where little bit of news and links are occasionally posted.

Good luck to everyone!
