Rolling Stone’s new list of 100 greatest guitarists – JF is 72nd
Rolling Stone have released their list of 100 greatest guitarists. Unlike the one done in 2003, where only David Fricke got to choose his favourite axemen, this poll featured a whole assembly of musicians and other people from the business picking their favourites. John came in 72nd.
Here’s their description:
The Red Hot Chili Peppers always knew how to rock a party; it took John Frusciante to turn them into an arena-packing band with a sound they could call their own. Frusciante is a remarkably elastic stylist and a gifted sculptural arranger who pushed the Chilis to explore new worlds without getting in the way of their funk-pumped energy; he beefed up their sound with both well-placed fire (the volcanic, Hendrix-style solo on “Dani California”) and remarkable elegance (the indelible opening chords of “Under the Bridge”).
Key Tracks: “Dani California,” “Under the Bridge”

On the 2003 list, David Fricke placed John as the 18th greatest guitarist of all time; and he topped the last year’s BBC Radio 6 Axe Factor poll on the greatest guitarist of the last 30 years. Therefore, all these things vary and, at the end of the day, de gustibus non disputandum.
