British band Blackbud on RHCP/JF influence on their music
Andrew of Stereokill.net recently interviewed a British band called Blackbud and asked them about John and Peppers’ influence on their music. They were more than happy to recommend two albums we all love. Stereokill: There’s a strong Red Hot Chili Peppers/John Frusciante influence in Blackbud’s sound. Does the band have a favourite Frusciante solo release? SN: We listen to Shadows Collide With People on the bus a fair bit. To Record Only Water for Ten Days is another good one. Andrew would also like to recommend the band to I-M.net readers, as even Jimmy Page is a fan of them. You can check the band out on their Myspace page.

Today’s issue of LO-KU, revelations, is about John
LO-KU, with the tagline Haiku gone lo-fi is a web comic ran by Thomas and Daniel Drinnen. Daniel’s the author of today’s issue and he wanted everyone to see it, for the following reason: For today’s comic, I have created a strip inspired by John! I would love to get this comic out to the fans of John, and if you mentioned it on your site, I’m sure they would all see it! Of course I would be happy to link to Invisible Movement in exchange for this favor, but more than anything, this is about sharing my love for John with the rest of the world! LO-KU is a…

Navarro: Frusciante “f__king good” and “awesome”
For those of you who follow Invisible Movement on Twitter, this might not be that new, but for everyone else, it probably will be. Maybe, though, you remember that four years ago; Dave Navarro seemed pretty enthusiastic when asked if there’s a chance he could get John on stage with Camp Freddy. In July this year, Navarro mentioned finally getting a copy of BSSM (perhaps making a clever pun on the never-having-listened-to-One-Hot-Minute story that media washed their mouth with so many times) and his reaction was, as it can be read here, that Frusciante is fucking REALLY fucking good!. Weeks later, he posted a link to a video clip that…

Great and raw audio interview from 2004 sees the light of the day!
The staff of IForMusic.com are employees of the Franco-German TV network ARTE and they have decided to share a number of gems they recorded throughout years – whether it’s audio or video – with the worldwide web. Five years ago, in 2004, they interviewed John at the Four Seasons in Paris, during his promotional duties for Shadows Collide With People. The interview is raw, sincere and there are no interviewers’ questions – a soundtrack was added to it instead. The interview is currently being transcribed, but in the meantime, enjoy the excerpt from its very beginning. I listen to music constantly, all day long, every day, and-and it’s never for…

A John & Omar surprise in sight!
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez productions have announced on their Myspace blog that a new digital store for all of Omar’s projects has been launched, as well as one for De Facto and one for Zechs Marquise. The files are available in almost all possible formats and as lossless, too; so click on that blog post so as to read instructions on how to download what you prefer. And, as we all know how much and how often John and Omar collaborated, this news one of the insiders posted on The Comatorium boards sounds REALLY promising: I can’t wait to tell you all about what’s up next but I’ll give you a hint…

Celebration of Californication’s 10th anniversary over at RHCP Universe
Hear ye, hear ye! A long-term friend site of Invisible Movement, RHCP Universe, is running a Californication week on their Myspace; celebrating 10 years of the album’s release. During this period of time, site’s friends will be presented with various random surprises in forms of images and media; some of them submitted their fan art to the cause and people are also encouraged to tell everyone if they saw the band on the Cali tour and what were their impressions. Also, they’re doing something that sort of looks similar to Invisible Movement’s Saturday questions and from what I can understand, there will be more than one of those during this…

The Standard names Californication one of best ’99 albums
Australian newspaper, The Standard, did a little recap of all the years of the XX century ending with 9 and, as they pointed out, 1999 was the next after 1979 and 1989. Naturally, RHCP’s Californication is on their list. WHEN fame and drugs got the better of guitarist John Frusciante, RHCP recruited Jane’s Addiction axeman Dave Navarro and recorded One Hot Minute – an under-rated and adventurous album that failed to inspire the public or the critics like their previous album Blood Sugar Sex Magik had. After looking like things could be over for the Peppers, Frusciante returned, breathing new life and a fresher, poppier sound into the punk-funk heroes…

The Grape Jam claim that John predicted their formation
Many thanks to Dolfina of RHCP Universe for this unusual news. In their interview for Nuevo.net, The Grape Jam claim that John predicted their formation. Here’s the article bit mentioning that and you should definitely check out their music. The band’s Chili Pepper-esque style has much to do with the direct influence that comes with repeated listening (Sipes referred to the Chili Peppers’ Live at Slane Castle as The Bible on DVD). But Burns believes that Chili Pepper guitarist John Frusciante predicted the band’s formation through some prophetic words. “I read an interview when I was a sophomore in high school with John Frusciante, right after Blood Sugar Sex Magik,…

Manic Street Preachers are recommending The Empyrean!
On the front page of their website, British rockers Manic Street Preachers are listing the things they’ve been into these days, with the heading Manic Street Preachers have been loving. One of the things they’ve been loving is The Empyrean. Not so surprising, given that James Dean Bradfield’s answer to NME’s question on what were the best things to have happened in 1998 was simply: “John Frusciante rejoining the Chili Peppers”. Many thanks to Tom and Mark for the heads-up and the reminder. ^_^ And don’t forget to check the Manics’ blog, they seem to be really nice people; plus their music is great.

BSSM #18 on the list of 100 greatest guitar albums, according to Guitar World
Guitar World ranked BloodSugarSexMagik 18th on their list of 100 greatest guitar albums, published two days ago 18) Blood Sugar Sex Magik, 1991 (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) It came out of a haunted mansion in the Hollywood Hills—the album that established the Red Hot Chili Peppers as major-league contenders in the game of rock. By this point, the Peppers had survived the Eighties L.A. punk scene, a head-spinning succession of personnel changes and the death of founding guitarist Hillel Slovak. But now they had John Frusciante in the fold, not to mention producer Rick Rubin, who worked with the band for the first time on Blood Sugar Sex Magik.…
