John on Catherine Ringer’s Prends-Moi
John appears on a single track on French artist Catherine Ringer’s new album, Ring’n’Roll; which was produced by his friend and the Wu-Tang Clan mastermind, RZA. Higher Ground is the 28th best cover ever, according to Gibson
In yet another of their music-related lists, guitar makers Gibson are exploring the topic of the best cover songs. This morning, they published places 30-21 and one of the songs on the list is the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ cover of Higher Ground. Red Hot Chili Peppers took this groovy, wah/Clavinet-driven 1973 Stevie Wonder song from the classic album Innervisions and turned it into a hyperkinetic funk/metal track on their 1989 album Mother’s Milk. The album was the Peppers’ first with guitarist John Frusciante. RHCP’s version felt more frantic than the original, and the video reflected this vibe in glorious Technicolor. BloodSugarSexMagik gets a Lego treatment
British artist Aaron Savage has an interesting, yet simple mission: recreating iconic albums’ covers using LEGO elements. One of the albums he decided to revive using ’em bricks is Red Hot Chili Peppers’ BloodSugarSexMagik. For a wider selection of the LEGO album covers, have a look here. Solo album rumours are unclear, so hold your horses!
Since there are some rumours about the 11th solo album going, this post was pretty much necessary. Yesterday, our friend Wesley asked Share Watson if she’s working with John on tunes for his new album. You might remember that, circa six months ago, Share Watson aka Truth Hurts was at John’s home studio, working on some tunes for her third studio album. John on new Swahili Blonde song, Etoile De Mer
Swahili Blonde camp is apparently working on a new album titled Psycho Tropical Ballet Pink, which is set for release sometime in August this year. The first track, Etoile De Mer (that’s starfish in French) has just been posted onto their Bandcamp page and it has a very, very summer cocktail tropical beach vibe to it. John’s contributed a guitar to it, to our great pleasure, despite not being a band member anymore. Have a listen and enjoy it, by all means.
