THE LOWDOWN: Ataxia is RHCP guitarist John Frusciante’s second side project in as many months, and features Fugazi’s Joe Lally and sometime collaborator Josh Klinghoffer. ‘Automatic Writing’ is the result of four days of experimental jamming and is unlike anything Frusciante has done before. Utilising brave washes of nagging, repetive guitar held together by Lally’s understated dub-like basslines, tracks like ‘Dust’ and ‘Addition’ are sublime waves of sound to get immersed in for 45 minutes.
