Messy was founded in 1998 by Doug DeAngelis and Kevin Haskins (ex drummer of Bauhaus) to produce scores for video games, film, and television.
Doug and Kevin describe Messy as electronic alternative music, featuring guests like Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jessicka from Scarling and many other interesting individuals.
Messy Music Style is a new genre of music developed as a chemistry blend of all popular music mixed together with poetry or a rhyme scheme as the lyric. It usually consists of six genres of music: hip hop, rock, reggae, folk, pop music, and country music. The genre was started by Universal Records musician, Michael Barber. Nine Inch Nails frontman, Trent Reznor has been a key member of creating this new sound. His rock and rap mixtures seemed to pave the way.

Anders had a lot of budget issued while recording the film. She couldn’t afford the 35mm, so it was recorded digitally. Likely for the same reasons, the soundtrack was never released. The date used here is the date the track was announced.

We hope you had a great new years and we present you the first news of 2001!

Here is an update regarding the world of Kevin Haskins and Doug DeAngelis aka Messy. Kevin and Doug who are now actively composing, were approached by the director Alison Anders to write a song for her forthcoming movie entitled, Things Behind The Sun. The song had to evoke the sound of British alternative music of the early 80s. Coincidentally, Kevin and Doug had recently experienced a sterling performance by Flea, John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer, who were playing a charity show as a Joy Division cover band!

Consequently, Kevin and Doug enlisted their talents to write and record the song. It is entitled, A System For Shutting Everything Out. The line up is Flea on Bass, John on Guitar and Vocals, Josh on keyboards, Doug on keyboards and production and Kevin on drums. There are plans for a soundtrack release but details are not available as yet.The film is premiering at the Sundance film festival on January 23rd, and we’ll keep you posted on future screenings.
