Anthony Kiedis’ MusiCares big night
Since a great deal of Invisible Movement visitors are, more or less naturally, interested in what's going on with the rest of the Chili Peppers, and one month ago the news on Anthony Kiedis' then-upcoming MusiCares honour raised quite a lot of dust; here's an update on all that.
The event was previweed by Spinner and given a so-and-so review at Cinema.Terra.br (in Brazilian Portugese). There's an AK interview at this address, too.
luislasports from the board was at this event and he was not particularly pleased with it.
well too bad that is the biggest ripoff of a show i have ever been to. the mars volta never showed and we weren't even given an explanation as to why. the first group was bob and elijah forrest with josh. they played about 2 songs. then came some chick and played like 3 cover songs. iggy pop came out with flea, chad, and steve jones and played 4 songs. then A.K. came out and did like 3 boring cover songs with chad flea george lynch and josh. i expect my money back.
Lauren on the other side loved the ceremony.
I was actually quite pleased with the event. It was about 2 hours long and it did seem a little disorganized but I thought the performances were great. Flea, Chad and Bob Forrest all gave emotional tributes to Anthony which I found very sweet. The evening had no mention of John or anything to do with him what so ever. I wasn't surprised or upset about this because I knew going in this was Anthony's and Musicares evening and not John's. Overall I had a good time and was happy that Anthony was receiving such an honor. So I just wanted to share that the event wasn't terrible for everyone.
Justin of Tales From The Pit was present at the event too and he was not particularly happy that cameras were not allowed, which he has explained to the site's followers. However, he managed to snatch a video of the Red Hots minus John and he also wrote this in-depth review of the event. You can read some additional info on it in Justin's comments to this entry.
So, once again, despite various rumours and wishful thinking, John was not present at this event. As an insider explained some weeks ago; he had prior commitments out of town and he couldn't have been there; so please, don't go all gaga about this.

I was also there, this was beyond pathetic. Love the chili peppers, love iggy pop and the rest of the performers but this was false advertisement. Paid a lot of money for a rushed show, a couple songs and no mars volta? what can be done to get some sort of refund?
Thanks for using my video – very cool. While I am still working on getting my review up (I went to the Dodgers game today and watched my Giants get beat bad) I will say I really dug the night. The gal who sang was Petra Hayden – who did a beautiful cover of Porcelin. I was indeed bummed by the lack of Mars Volta, but Iggy was great, The Insects (Chad/Flea/Anthony with Ivan Neville and Ronnie Wood) were fun covers. Most important, sure it sucked TMV did not show up, and sure it sucks that you call a venue who says bring your camera in – only to have to go back to your car and ditch it. The thing to remember is that this was a benefit for drug/booze addiction recovery. That is more important than a silly camera or a lack of The Mars Volta.
