Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante now on CD

The collaboration self-titled album of Omar Rodriguez Lopez & John Frusciante which was digitally released for charity earlier this year and scheduled for a physical release in Japan was out this week in the said country and it (un)expectedly ended up on Amazon Japan’s besteseller list as #2 in the Music > Alternative Rock and #22 in Music > Rock section.

While this might be unimportant to the artists themselves, it sure is important for their listeners and it shows that the country on those islands over there has some good taste in alternative music!

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez & John Frusciante - alternative rock bestseller in Japan!

And what’s in there for you? Well, the album will be available in USA and Europe on 28th December. The links below are for pre-order, so if you intended it to be a Christmas holiday present to a music aficionado, you might want to change it to a New Year’s present instead.

It also appears that another Japanese store is giving away keychains with the album polaroid photo with every purchase. However, their website does not seem to be available in English, so perhaps someone could confirm this.

For the end, here are photos of the displays in a Japanese record store, courtesy of Sleepwell Records and photos of the actual CD and its liner notes written by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, courtesy of CerpinTaxt Blog and Tomoko Yamagutchi.

Liner notes read:

The album was written and recorded on a 1 inch tape machine in my bedroom in the spring of 2003. I took the picture of John and his guitar while he was playing and then Sonny made this layout, I mixed some songs, so did Lars. Pete mastered and now it’s yours to listen to. Please enjoy (we certainly did!)

Now we all know when the album was recorded.
