Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • Even more minor RHCP insider scoop from mr. Smith on the radio

In last night’s interview, to the central-Florida based Real Radio 104.1’s The Buckethead Show, Chad Smith was mostly talking about the Bombastic Meatbats and Chickenfoot but, given that there’s more and more suspense and curiosity brewing about it; he was, of course, asked a couple of questions about the Red Hot Chili Peppers as well. Here’s a not-so-perfect transcript of the relevant parts of the interview, starting at 08:36. As usual, there might be some blanks to fill, but please do not be perfectionists, as I still have not dug through most of your August, September and October emails, it’s almost physically impossible. Many thanks to the ever so kind…

  • RHCP are rehearsing indeed, sez Mr. Smith.

This post is brought to you by Invisible Movement and RHCP Universe together, because we split the duties to find what was necessary; and man, we sure had a lot of caffeine as well. On Monday, Chad Smith was interviewed by yet another radio station, Cities97 and you can listen to the interview here or download it by right-clicking and saving as, as some computers have problems with Windows Media streams and it was easy to get the actual link. And Dolfina of RHCP Universe was so kind to transcribe the relevant bits: things regarding RHCP rehearsing and nominations for the RNR Hall of Fame. I hope this little tea…

  • Press’ reactions on Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame nominations

As we all learnt a couple of days ago, Red Hot Chili Peppers were nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Since then, media has reacted, many analysysts, critics and others have come up with their views on this. Let’s see what they’re saying. PopMatters have been really nice. You can read the whole article written by AJ Ramirez, here, while the bit about RHCP follows: To think, that even a few years back the idea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers being the next alternative rock back to follow R.E.M. into the Hall would have seemed fanciful. However, over the last decade the Chili Peppers have transformed…

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers nominated for Rock’n’Roll Hall Of Fame

According to numerous media reports, Red Hot Chili Peppers are amongst the candidates to enter the Rock And Roll hall of fame in March next year; together with some other artists who are eligible for the first time and a bunch of veterans who have not made it yet. Rolling Stone have a long story on this, which you can read here and an excerpt follows: The ballot for next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis are up for nomination alongside the Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro,…

  • Chad Smith on RHCP hiatus, reunion in October and where they all have been

OK. I saw this interview posted by justin7894 on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ official BBS; and since it generated quite a lot of unnecessary hype due to a mention of a single date, it made me so sick that I didn’t even give it a listen. Not to mention countless emails I got just because of that date. But then I took a big sip of Pepsi Max, gave it a listen and wow, there’s some cool stuff in it and it lacks the moodyness of the yesterday’s article. So, what is it? It’s another, this time radio, interview with Chad Smith, done for Elliot In The Morning on…

  • Chad Smith on RHCP’s recording process, future and John Frusciante

In an interview for CraveOnline.com, Chad Smith talked about Red Hot Chili Peppers quite a lot. This probably is the only article where he spoke about the whole thing more than just saying they would be back in October. CraveOnline: How are you gearing up mentally for the Chili Peppers to kick back into gear? Chad Smith: It’s all good! I’m ready, it’s gonna be fun. We haven’t played in two years, so that’s the longest we’ve ever not played together. CraveOnline: There’s been a lot of concern over that, since you’ve been gone for so long. And John (Frusciante, RHCP guitarist) made a couple comments a while back on…

  • Rick Rubin’s book gets a bad review, but we get cool excerpts!

Not the first time a sharp review of something has come from PopMatters. In case some of you don’t remember, one of its staffers reviewed The Empyrean earlier this year, called Unreachable “Unbearable” and faced quite a lot of flaming in comments. This time, however, it’s not directly about John and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, it’s about theRick Rubin: In The Studio book by Jake Brown. I get it they’re really big fans of the whole bunch? However, despite the book getting a low grade, 3 out of 10, it sounds like people who visit this website could enjoy it even more than what was previously thought! You really…

  • Chad Smith on RHCP regrouping, demos up to 10 years old and John

In a recent lengthy interview with MusicRadar; Chad Smith spoke about his Meatbeats, Chickenfoot and, of course, the future of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Joe Bosso, who interviewed both him and John during 2008; asked a question about all *four* band members coming back into the studio, very explicitely. Do you have any demos written? “There’s ideas floating around. One of them dates back to 1999, I think. Flea, Anthony and I did jam recently. That felt good. But as far as demos go, we’ll just start writing in October.” What about John Frusciante? He’s the one guy who’s always been in question. In fact, earlier this year he…

  • ExploreMusic hope RHCP will be more inspired this time…

…basically, the author of the article the following excerpt is of, Adam Morrison, thinks that only one of the four Peppers was always delivering his best work. Let’s see who that is and why. Their relevance in the first part of their career is unquestionable, being an accessible alt/funk rock band, grabbing attention with their personalities/image/stunts. When John Frusciante joined, things got better, and when he left, things got pretty bad. When Frusciante rejoined for Californication, the band seemed to be as inspired as ever. By The Way was okay but more of the same, and I think Stadium Arcadium was, with the exception of a couple of tracks, bloated…

  • Anthony Kiedis and Flea confirm RHCP are getting back to studio

Eminent entertainment and politics magazine Rolling Stone caught up with the Chilis at Flea’s Silverlake conservatory event and got some words on their future from the frontman and the bassist. Anthony Kiedis said: “We’ve decided to write some songs. We imposed a two-year hiatus, which we felt we needed, then we went back to the roundtable and the decision was, ‘Let’s do this.’ The seeds are being planted.” Flea said: “After being kind of burnt at the end of our last tour, I feel major enthusiasm and vigor. Not like a restlessness, but a really healthy excitement. I’m just into it and ready to go forward.” To read the whole…
