Site updates, 02nd November 2008
First of all, I’m glad to inform all of you that the GLOBAL project is getting bigger and bigger. This time, it expanded to two new languages, one of which is claimed to be the most complicated language in the world. And, there’s the original Singhalese script added to the Singhalese translation, and the third version of the Spanish translation.
Second of all, there are some nice things from 2004 waiting to be added to the site, but they’ll be in the queue for a bit longer. Time is pretty hard to get hold on. Also, if you have sent one of the current update’s contents and have not gotten a response yet, you’ll get one soon. I’d rather wait longer and send a proper reply than saying “OK, thanks, bye”.
Third of all, this update contains some really, really good photos from 1999. And some live audio. And…well, you’ll see.
- Two new and two updated translations for the GLOBAL project
- The Empyrean rumour mill has been rewriten again
- An amazing set of live (actually, backstage) photos from 1999
- Three new sets of magazine scans
- New traditional drawing
- One solo show from 2001, in mp3 and FLAC
- More music in the audio player
- One more audio interview
- Misc. audio snippets have been updated
- Three new typed out articles
- Easier to access mobile interface (though with minor flaws)
- A minor forum enchancement: zodiac signs
- A couple of new link buttons for the site
- Six covers by an exceptionally talented site reader
- More readers’ music pages
GLOBAL action update
There have been plenty of updates to the Invisible Movement’s GLOBAL action.
Romanian translation by Anca Ilea and Euskera/Basque translation by Imanol also known as Wolf are completely new.
Imanol was also very kind to provide the site with one more Spanish translation, the first one by someone from Spain. And the Singhalese translation by April Heenatigalle has been added as a .jpg image next to the existing phonetic version. Take a peek.
An update to the rumour mill
The Empyrean Rumour Mill has been slightly reorganised again, the chronological order of the story should be clearer now. There are some newly-added bits, but it’s up to you to discover them.
Live photography
I’m quite honoured to present you beautiful backstage photographs of John and his bandmates taken by Canadian photographer Lino Ragno, at the time of their epic performance in Toronto’s Young Street on 22nd July 1999. Please, do check Lino’s impressive online portfolio on Flickr while you’re at it.
Magazine scans
What’s new in the magazine scans universe this week? Three Turkish magazines from various years, as scanned and generously passed over to I-M.net by Gizem (and whom did you expect, Santa Claus? God? Satan?)
Blue Jean, March 2001
Blue Jean, May 2005
Blue Jean, June 2006
Fanart
New drawing by Conor Todd has been added to the traditional art section. Check it out.
Live downloads from 2001
On 08th February, the first of those of the new millenium that is, John played a very magical show in Amsterdam. Next to a whole pallette of his solo songs, he covered many of his favourites. As if all of that wasn’t enough, one of the songs was a complete improvisation and, as someone in the audience requested it, John also dissected the instrumental parts of RHCP’s Under The Bridge and explained which is which. Brilliant? Bloody brilliant and a great show to listen on long rides from one place to another, especially if you’re riding on crowded buses in two million people cities.
The show is available in both FLAC and mp3 format and it’s not the same version as the one usually found online. It’s a better one, with stronger sound. Compliments to the friends from StoneColdBush and the original taper. This truly is amazing. So, what are you waiting for? Get it!
Audio player updates
The audio player now also contains the above mentioned Amsterdan show, XFM and OUI FM radio mini-shows as well as Paris show from 2001. And there is still more to come.
Audio interviews
An interview John did for German website Das Ding is now available amongst other audio interviews. For those people out there who seem to be having issues with German (which is indeed an odd issue to have), this one is completely in English. Fear not. Many thanks to Nadia for encoding this.
Misc. audio snippets
Due to popular demand, this section was probably updated for the first time, ever. I admit, it’s one of the dead ends that needs to be worked on. Either way, as of now, if you go there; you’ll find four new snippets, all from 1991: three from the Funky Monks DVD and one from the Vpro interview.
Magazine articles
Guitar World, November 1991 was transcribed by Naomi. A 21-year-old baby-faded rockstar John is wild, almost exposing his privates, vomitting on a sink and being slightly arrogant to the interviewer, who later on interviewed him a number of times. At the same time, Flea is being quite calm.
Guitar World, February 2004 was transcribed by me. It’s a short article on release of Shadows, centering on John’s supposed death wish. It also hints that Stadium Arcadium was conceived.
Rock Mag, March 2004 was translated and transcribed by Clémence. In this article, there’s a mention of how Shadows’ cover art came to life.
Easier to access mobile interface
The alternate mobile-phone-friendly interface for this website is now accessible to older mobile phones and PDAs as well. It contains recent news items and comments. However, one common key is stripped off for whatever reason.
Basically, when you access Invisible Movement using your mobile phone, you’ll be automatically sent to WML interface rather than XHTML interface. In non-g33k language: you’ll be sent to a simple page that your phone can read.
Zodiac signs on the forum
The forum members can now display their zodiac signs in profiles and on topic pages, next to the already existing country flag and gender icon. Simply, go to your profile and select the right sign from the new input field. As this is the only true belief in the world, it’ll sure help us understand each other better.
Note: The profile page might ask you an incredibly stupid question as well. That’s for spam protection.
New link buttons
Wonderful Silvia from Italy has created a couple of new linking buttons for Invisible Movement. Pick them up from this page.
Readers’ cover songs
The readers’ covers page has been spiced up with six covers by one single person, who is very talented and creative. Head over there to hear Dan Boyer’s work.
Also, a rather stupid spelling error and a dead link on the covers page have been fixed.
Readers’ Music Pages
Please, check out The Lost WaveS, sanders, Otiose,Tubby Boots and Nicholas Taylor straight from this page.
