Reactions to the new Red Hot Chili Peppers book and photos
Since The Red Hot Chili Peppers: An Oral/Visual History saw the light of the day a couple of weeks ago; there have been many reactions to it. (Un)surprisingly enough, many of them were out-of-the-box and picked from Reuters, so if you want a true opinion on the book, you’re better off getting yourself a copy.
The Reuters story sums up what the book is about and calls it a nostalgic window into the future, rather than a resume of what has happened before. Nearing the end of their summary, they quote Flea’s feelings about the book.
“A picture book by its nature is a nostalgic thing,” Flea said. “Going back through time and looking at those memories, it’s very emotional. It gives you a bigger picture of the future and what’s important.”
Rolling Stone threw together a gallery of assorted photos from the book, alongside some memorable quotes. So did Spin. Both articles are somewhat fun, for picture-lovers and random quote-lovers. To others, it might appear as things are being taken out of context.

And here’s another nice quote from John found in the book:
I’m happier onstage when I’m getting more inside myself. On Stadium I was able to do that while staying connected to everyone while doing it. A lot of improvisation between Flea and I, a lot of closing my eyes and drifting and seeing where the force took me or whatever. For me that’s the best we’ve ever played together in terms of improvisation, and making each show a real unique artistic event. Because we were doing so much improvising, we totally had some bad shows, and good shows. But that’s the force you are working with and you appreciate the bad shows – even though if it is bad and your friends are there, you feel bad. But whatever, it is worth it. More often than not we had these great shows where people could tell it was happening in the moment – it wasn’t planned out or anything.
A little bird told me that quote bits are posted on Invisible Movement’s tumblr every now and then.
