  • Stream and pre-order The Mars Volta’s new album, Octahedron

If you’re a fan of The Mars Volta, or just curious because their new album is yet again going to feature quite a lot of John’s guitar playing, you can stream the whole thing on their Myspace page. Yes, that’s right, the whole of Octahedron is available for a sneak preview. For everyone who’s not good with dates, it’s out in Germany tomorrow, in UK on Monday, in USA on Tuesday and you should probably check with your local distributors if you live someplace else, as these things may vary from country to country. The first review has arrived as well. Chris Jefferies of InTheNews says: Octahedron is the most…

  • A John & Omar surprise in sight!

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez productions have announced on their Myspace blog that a new digital store for all of Omar’s projects has been launched, as well as one for De Facto and one for Zechs Marquise. The files are available in almost all possible formats and as lossless, too; so click on that blog post so as to read instructions on how to download what you prefer. And, as we all know how much and how often John and Omar collaborated, this news one of the insiders posted on The Comatorium boards sounds REALLY promising: I can’t wait to tell you all about what’s up next but I’ll give you a hint…

  • The Mars Volta’s first single from Octahedron (possibly with JF)

The first single off The Mars Volta’s new album, Octahedron; a song called Cotopaxi, was played last night on BBC1’s Zane Lowe. If you click here; you can listen to the song at about 30 minutes of the show. It’s played during the Hottest Record segment. According to the TMV afficionados, John IS playing on this song. It was not confirmed, though. It’s still a speculation. Many thanks to Mr.Maniac for the news.

  • More news on the new TMV album, Octahedron

As reported by Pitchfork in their yesterday’s news item; The Mars Volta’s new album, Octahedron, will (how surprisingly) contain of eight songs. The Pitchfork staff member was somewhat humorous about the album’s personell. On the album, the core Mars Volta duo of guitarist/sound wizard Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala are joined once again by multi-instrumentalist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez, drummer Thomas Pridgen, keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, bassist Juan Alderete de la Peña, and guitarist John Frusciante (who is also in some other band, apparently? Ice Cold Hot Salts or something?) The track listing should be, as follows: Since We’ve Been Wrong Teflon Halo of Nembutals With Twilight as My Guide Cotopaxi…

  • The Mars Volta’s Octahedron out on 19th June?!

As reported on The Comatorium blog as well as Berlinista.com; an official announcement is expected in near future regarding The Mars Volta’s new album, Octahedron. Once again, the album will be produced by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. The provisoral release date would be 19th June. And, from this segment taken out of the Mike Watt’s The Watt From Pedro podcast, John’s very likely involved in this: Mike Watt: Like, uh, Omar… John Frusciante: Mmhmm. Mike Watt:..had you be a guitar player for him. John Frusciante: Yeah, I’ve played on all their albums, except their first EP. I just did another one in August. Mike Watt: Does he play on it? I mean,…

  • Warpaint’s “Exquisite Corpse” + John’s involvement in recording process

This is a guest-article written by Carole la_kagol; with the goal to present the work of the band whose album John mixed to everyone who’s interested. The article is abridged and you can download the original version as a PDF file I have made by clicking here (size: 24.05 Mb, downloads so far) – on this page there’s only basic information and the excerpts of the whole piece that concern John’s involvement in the mixing process and support he gave to the band. Please, note that the PDF document contains web links that are clickable. Warpaint is a psychedelic jazzy underground band, founded somewhere between 2003 and 2006 in the…

  • Updated link to Way Down & an interview with its director

Since the video posted two days ago was apparently on YouTube without Squeak E. Clean Productions’ permission; it was removed and the staff of Boing Boing have uploaded a new version of it at this address. There’s an interview with its director, Syd Garon. I’m posting a small excerpt here, go to the site to see it. Xeni Jardin: Syd, can you tell us about what we’re seeing here — the story this video tells? How did you develop this visual narrative, in relation to the message of the song (about a woman who falls in love with the Devil?) Syd Garon: Sage was painting these warring gangs of Blue…

  • The official video for Way Down, one more review and lyrics

Here’s the official video for N.A.S.A. song Way Down, featuring Barbie Hatch, RZA and John. The video was directed by Syd Garon and it’s featuring the amazing artwork of Sage Vaughn. It sure is a beautiful thing to see for everyone who loves clever animation. For previews of all N.A.S.A. songs and some live stuff, go to Squeak E. Clean’s blog. For a list of USA and Canada shows go to N.A.S.A. Myspace. For detailed information on where to get The Spirit of Apollo or just this song, click here Here’s one more review bit, from HipHopDX, the whole review can be read here. Another stellar collaboration, “Way Down,” occurs…

  • Way down is described as the best N.A.S.A. track by many reviewers.

Lauren Murphy of Entertainment.ie has written a very positive review of N.A.S.A’s The Spirit Of Apollo and named Way Down one of two best tracks on the album. Puzzling, then, that the two best tracks are contrary in their design. ‘Way Down”s loose, chilled-out ambience could be attributed to John Frusciante’s droopy guitar work, but its ’70s spy movie theme is bolstered by incisive rhymes by RZA and vocals by little-known singer Barbie Hatch. ‘Gifted’, meanwhile, is an immediately likeable fresh ‘n’ funky offering – unsurprising, considering that charismatic duo Kanye West and Santogold are behind it. Overall, there’s a sneaking suspicion that ‘The Spirit of Apollo’ may be a…

As it was stated so many times, John is on a song called Way Down together with RZA and Barbie Hatch.
