Calibration update
Due to a problem which is, well, not of a technical kind; the playlists will be swapped on Tuesday and I apologise for that. Until then, just one little bit of info: As people in Japan who already got Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s new album say, John is credited solely on track number six, Glosa Picaresca Wou Men and the song basically has an Ataxia-ish vibe to it, but the voice is very much distorted. Oh, and just to make it sure: he’s singing in English.

Impressions of the Wu-Tang clan’s songs featuring John
As the most of you already know (you were looking at the calendar, haven’t you), Wu-Tang Clan’s album 8 Diagrams has been out for 2 days now. It’s 100% sure that John is on two tracks, The Heart Gently Weeps and Windmill (many thanks to Anita for having looked at the album credits and cleared that up!). You can get the clean version of the album here and the explicit version here. If that’s too much for you, you can buy those two songs only: The Heart Gently Weeps is here and Windmill is here. Now for some reviews…the longest one first, the rest are behind the “more” link. Feel…

Could it be another update on collaborations? Yes.
Update on the Wu-Tang collaboration The final version of The Heart Gently Weeps is available as a download; with both clean and explicit lyrics. An instrumental version will be followed on the actual tangible single CD. I somehow manage to hear it and it sounds really good, one can tell who’s on the guitar. More info on the single as soon as it is actually available. Have a look at the cover, too. You can also hear the CD and single versions of the song here. Update on the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez collaboration The nice people from N20 records have put up three short clips of songs off the Calibration album…

An update on collaborations yet again
Collaboration with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez The nice people from N20 records will publish short clips of “El Monte Tai,” “Calibration,” and “….is Pushing Luck” on the album’s MySpace page on Monday. It is still unclear on which track(s) John sings, though. Also, the USA release date has been confirmed to be 09th February 2008. Collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan Here’s a nice, yet somewhat confusing review from All Hiphop (as Windmill doesn’t appear with such credits anywhere). With guitars implemented in nearly half of the tracks, its’ use alternates between ominous (“Weak Spotâ€) and soaring (“Sunlightâ€). Don’t get it twisted though, RZA who produce most of the album, avoids any forced Rap/Rock…

Update on recent collaborations
Collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan You Can’t Stop Me Now has been omitted from the rumoured tracklisting for 8 Diagrams, but The Heart Gently Weeps has been remastered and it’s definitely on the album. Sooo…look out for it. Collaboration with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Nice people from N20 records have been very quick to respond to the question and they found out that John is also contributing lyrics to the song(s) he’ll be singiong on Omar Rodriguez-Lopez upcoming superalbum Calibration. They also want the word spreaded, so add them to your MySpace friends! Also, the official tracklisting has arrived. It is still unknown to which songs John contributes his vocal and songwriting skills…

NASA movie trailer
As reported back in July, after years of joined musicians’ work on it, a project entitled NASA (which stands for North America – South America) is more closer than ever to seeing the light of the day. Curated by Squeak E. Clean and DJ Zegon, it’s a whole gallery of musicians from various places and known for playing various genres. Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), David Byrne (Talking Heads), RZA, George Clinton, Method Man, Cee-Lo, Tom Waits; to name a few. John’s among them as well, performing on the song titled Way Down with RZA and Barbie Hatch. Here’s two head people themselves said on the project…

Saw Something to be a single…
According to information on Dave Gahan’s website, the song John’s featured on will be the second single from the Hourglass album. I do not know what this means in terms of music videos and how (un)avoidable speculations might be, but either way, it is nice to know.

More on Calibration
(danke schön an Melissa, once again!) Here’s some information on Omar Rodriguez Lopez’s new solo album that John will also contribute to, as provided by N20 records. The image is its cover. We just wanted to start getting the word out on Omar’s (Mars Volta) solo album “Calibration (is Pushing Luck and Key Too Far)” that was recorded in Amsterdam… it’s the first flagship rock/electronic fueled album from the ORL Group featuring an all star cast of players. You can click on the link above to see the cover art. It’s a truly artistic record and we are honored to be able to work with Omar and familia and be…

Clarification regarding “You Can’t Stop Me Now”
John definitely plays on Wu-Tang Clan’s song You Can’t Stop Me Now. Here’s an excerpt from an interview RZA gave to Scratch magazine where it’s clearly visible: You Can’t Stop Me Now, produced by RZA “It sounds like a black western. I had John Frusciante [of Red Hot Chili Peppers] play lead guitar. The sample we played over comes from an old song ‘Message To A Black Man’. There’s been many versions but we referenced a reggae one.”

John to sing on Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s solo album.
(Danke schön, Melissa! And thanks to other Melissa for fixing my embarrassing typo!) Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is preparing yet another new album and, as said on the D.E.I.M.O.S MySpace blog, John is going to contribute his vocals to it. Calibration is another in a series of albums written while Omar Rodriguez Lopez was living in Amsterdam in 2005. Similar to the recent Se Dice Bisonte No Bufalo album, Omar utilized his usual cast of contributors to perform some of the tracks, while completing others by himself. With an emphasis on electronic, dub and synth-based compositions, the resulting album has more in common with Rodriguez’s DE FACTO output than with his rock-oriented…
