Michael Tanner’s Q & A with Ryan Hewitt regarding Ataxia
Michael Tanner, a friend of Invisible Movement’s owner and a very talented and promising young musician, did a little Q & A with Ryan Hewitt regarding Ataxia’s recording sessions. Ryan was incredibly kind to respond to all the questions and, even though some things are the same as those from the Tape Op interview, some others are different and there are some things you might not have known about otherwise. So, it’s a good read. Many thanks to Michael for having shared his own research. Generally, what was the Recording Setup like (Console, Outboard Gear, Tape Recorder, Tape Speed, Micing, Amps..)? Recorded at Sunset Sound on a Neve 8088. Used…

Site updates, 18th November 2008
So, the week when a server upgrade was causing a minor chaos on this domain is behind us as well as the week when we all ended up smiling broadly. Regarding the first thing. It took me a lot of time and a bunch of support tickets exchanged with the staff of Servage.net, but with their help and help of some really kind people from Gallery2 support forums, the issues were resolved and everything is back to normal…for a longer period of time, I hope. On this occasion, many thanks to Peter, Patrik, Julie, Manuel and Scott on one and “nivekiam” on the other side. Thanks for your patience for…

Hillingdon Mind interview outtake in its full length
Having obtained a permission from Chris Phillips of Hillingdon Mind (many thanks!); I’m presenting you an outtake of the interview which is to be published on their respected website in December. The outtake is omitted from the final product and it is, unlike the rest of the transcript, related to The Empyrean. I sure hope you will enjoy it. Do not hesitate to leave comments, as usual! There is also a whole discussion about it on the forum. Can you describe the essence of your new album? (Long pause and a groan from John) “Ah man. I guess… yeah I don’t know if I can answer that. I find myself…

Reactions from all around the WWW
The web is pretty much buzzing with the news on the The Empyrean’s release, knowing that Red Hots are on a hiatus and that, suddenly, every single thing band members do are therefore somewhat sensational to the general public. So, here’s what the others are saying….often featuring a cynical approach to that *other* sensational news on the band for the week. What overshadowed what? You decide. Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has recruited his bandmate Flea and former Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr for his latest solo album, “The Empyrean.” The disc is due January 20 via Record Collection. The Sonus Quartet and the New Dimension Singers also appear…

Short news bits – RHCP rumoured for a festival & an outtake
I have noticed that nobody is really reading the “elsewhere” section, so here’s a classic post with short news, while we’re waiting for something I mentioned last week. RHCP on a festival in Vegas next year? As reported by Vegas Tripping, Dave Peters, formerly of The Alarm, is intending to put together a Live Aid-style charity festival in Las Vegas in 2009. It would be called Vegas Rocks and the rumoured line-up would be Guns’N’Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Motorhead, The Damned and The Alarm. [1] An outtake from Hillington Mind interview You can find a bit that won’t be in the Hillington Mind interview at this…

The Empyrean cover image
This is the Empyrean cover image, reportedly designed by the photographer Sarah Sitkin. Click on the image to view it in a bigger size. UPDATE, 16th November, 14:00 CET: – There’s a new post on John’s official site containing a high-resolution image of the cover. [1] – There’s a discussion going on regarding this image on the Invisible Movement BBS, you can follow it in its own thread. [1] I apologise for having written posting and not post at some point on Friday and put it amongst quotation marks. That was not meant to be rude or cynical.

Sonus Quartet and Double G’s impressions on working with John.
This is what Sonus Quartet wrote in their blog, right after their recording sessions for The Empyrean in October 2007. (thanks to Anitka who dug it out of the www!) We just had an inspiring and fulfilling session for Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante, putting some string love on his upcoming solo album. He is once again collaborating with longtime musical partner Josh Klinghoffer, who originally introduced us to John at the beginning of the year while we were opening for the Chili Peppers with Gnarls Barkley and it’s a project we’ve been looking forward to ever since. Neel and Vanessa both wrote quartet arrangements for it, as well as…

18 hours after it was posted on the internet for the first time that it’s real (Haven’t you read that already? Go read!); John’s 10th solo album, is creating a big bang of its own around the world wide web streams of music. A couple of minutes ago, Empyrean tracklisting was posted on the RHCP.com. The Empyrean and John’s blog – It can’t get more official than this!
Record Collection Music just passed this to I-M.net and I do hope that it will clear up the hype generated within the past couple of hours. So, read this carefully, as his is the best news we’d read all year and a proof that The Empyrean, the album beyond physical existence, is REAL. If you think someone put something in your water, they didn’t. John’s blogging about music theory on his official website. And he seems to be interested in connecting to people. The Empyrean, John’s newest record, features Flea, Josh, Johnny Marr, The Sonus Quartet and The New Dimension Singers. It will be released worldwide on January 20th 2009…
